This looks like a discussion of a similar problem.? There are two
suggested solutions:

Correct command from linux client should be
smbclient //NT4MEMBER/share1 -U NT4DOMAIN\\user1
(user is from NT4DOMAIN, not from NT4MEMBER)
This command is not working after upgrade. Logs say something about crap

Well, the host where you ran that command thinks that "nt4member" is the
DC.? Do you see anything in your configuration file that might indicate
why?? You haven't given us enough information

I'm not sure it makes sense to use "security = domain" with an ldap

I don't have any NT4-style domains handy to test with, so I can't be
very specific.? Your logs seem to indicate that Samba believes itself to
be the best DC for the domain.? See what you get from:
net rpc info
net rpc testjoin

Shame.? I'm not really sure what else to try, beyond my previous
suggestion that it doesn't make sense to be both a domain member and use
an ldap passdb backend.

Copy them to a pastebin and post the link to the pastebin. Pastebin is
ideal for log files, source code, and other text data

Winbind and User Private Groups
...rh:resourceFile
My question revolves around 'User Private Groups'. I noticed my AD users UID's do not have matching GID's. I came across the following:
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/groupmapping.html#id2596644
This seems to indicate I cannot implement UPG because Windows will not allow user and groups of the same name.
>From an administrative point of view, how do I handle this? Should I be concerned about this? How will a non UPG setup be different for us Linux users who are accustomed to having private groups? Essentially, I'm trying to av...

Yes, I add this host with command:
net rpc join MEMBER -S NT4LIKEDOMAINSERVER -U root
I tried to change "security = USER" but it did not help.
I have to say that before upgrade samba from 4.7.1-9 to 4.8.3-4 I did
not use and did not run winbind daemon. But now it is necessary to run
winbind according to samba documentation:
https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.8.0.html
Domain member setups require winbindd

Group quota with Linux
...is more logical and intuitive
for the user. The share represents a logical disk with a fixed capacity,
like any physical disk in the system.
By changing quota.c to check group quota instead of user quota, I found
an easy way to accomplish this.
RedHat Linux works with the User Private Group scheme (UPG). Every user
has a private group with the same name as the user itself and a default
umask of 002. This allows for setting a quotum on the group, having user
quota support completely switched off. Also, a quotum can be set on a
group share which is writable for all members of that group.
As an exa...
