Another question, unfortunately. . . .(Installing "foreign"/trying to import/export SAS files)
I have downloaded R--no problem there. Unfortunately, I have run into a second problem. I am trying to use read.ssd and then read.xport (to get a SAS data set). I have imported the package "foreign" according to instructions ( options(CRAN="http://cran.us.r-project.org/") and install.packages("foreign") ), but when I...

I read Dave's document. It lists (rather complex) ways to use it, but it doesn't list why any of them are needed for our workflow. That would go more towards c...

Templating a shell script - major error
Hi group, I am trying to template a bash script with puppet. Unfortunately, this fails with a bang, and even more unfortunately I have no idea why. The script starts with the usual #!/bin/bash When I run puppet, I get this: info: Caching catalog for l1211022.sdst.sbaintern.de err: Failed to apply catalog: Parameter source failed: Could not understand source #!/...

selection of optim parameters
...me of the calculation of the function is about 0.65 sec. Since the free parameters should be within some boundaries I am using the following command: optim(fn=calculateLogLikelyhood, c(0.4, 2, 0.4, 80000, 0.8), lower=c(0,0,0,0,0), upper=c(1, 5, Inf, Inf, 1), control=list(trace=1, maxit=1000)) Unfortunately the result doesn't seem to be reasonable. 3 of the optimized parameters are on the boundaries. Unfortunately I don't have much experience using optimizatzion methods. That's why I am asking you. Do you have any hints for me what should be taken into account when doing such an opti...

rate limited pfifo_fast?
...39;d like to prioritize packets going outbound according to the TOS header of the IP field. I''ve read through the LARTC Howto several times, and I think I have a good feel for the information it it. It also seems that what I''m trying to do is pretty straight-forward and common. Unfortunately, the HOWTO doesn''t seem to have a good answer for this simple problem, nor have I been able work out how to do this from wading through a lot of other documentation. It appears that the pfifo_fast qdisc has most of what I want - prioritizing by TOS header. Unfortunately, it is a "...

OpenOffice ods spreadsheets in R?
I would like to open OpenOffice (LibreOffice) .ods files in R. I've tried the ROpenOffice package from omegahat, but unfortunately, the read.ods() function attempts to use the values of the first column in a worksheet as row names, and thus does not allow duplicates in there (which, even more unfortunately, occur in my files). Also, the function does not allow to forward any other parameters to the called functions, lik...

xVM and VirtualBox
Hi unfortunately VirtualBox does not work yet in a Solaris Dom0: I installed VirtualBox beta and it runs fine on bare metal. Unfortunately the necessary driver does not load automatically in a xVM Dom0. It can be loaded manually but it looks like it does not work in a Dom0: bash-3.2# modinfo | grep vbox # t...

R's unfortunate treatment of X11 failures
..., I just had the above happen to me without my being warned...I lost some data, but not a lot. I am working on creating a reproducible case currently. That said, in the meantime, I would suggest a broader fix. I'm sure we can agree that R aborting due to failed assertions like this are pretty unfortunate. In the case of X11 failures like this, however, there is an alternative: Print an error message and take a preventative action. "Error: X11 fatal IO error: X11 device disabled." ...and then call dev.off(). Indeed, if I just run dev.off() when I see this error, nothing about R seems co...

SVN serves our workflow very well. The versioning system should get out of the way of development; it shouldn't "pull focus." SVN doesn't require you to spend a lot of time learning it and adapting to its way of doi...

Feature request: FAIL_DELAY-support for sshd
Hello! My Linux-server is every day attacked with brute-force password cracking attacks. I use openssh-3.9p1 (SuSE Linux 9.2) with standard setup (PAM, LoginGraceTime 2m, MaxAuthTries 6). Unfortunately, I see cracking attempts with very short delays (1 second): Jan 31 00:46:53 XXX sshd[10774]: Invalid user backup from ::ffff:66.98.176.50 Jan 31 00:46:54 XXX sshd[10776]: Invalid user server from ::ffff:66.98.176.50 Jan 31 00:46:55 XXX sshd[10778]: Invalid user adam from ::ffff:66.98.176.50 ....

Looking for some example dialplans
I have an Asterisk system setup for our small business, and its working well. I posted to the list about a week or so ago, regarding having it handle direct extension dialing, and unfortunately I'm not any closer to solving this issue, so I was hoping someone might have a working example of how to set this up they could point me towards. Basically I have everything EXCEPT direct extension dialing working. What I mean by this is that a caller gets an ACD menu when they come into...

how to setup different quota for multiple namespaces
..., additional namespace in order to move archived mails (Thunderbird Archives) to another storage system. namespace { type = private separator = . prefix = Archives. location = maildir:/var/vmail/archive/%Ln/Maildir subscriptions = yes list = children inbox = no } This works well but unfortunately I cannot find a solution to either ignore this new namespace from quota computation or add a separate quota value for it. I have integrated user authentication with LDAP and fetch some user attributes from LDAP entries: user_attrs = =home=/var/vmail/%Ln/Maildir,=mail=maildir:/var/vmail/%Ln/Mail...

Cisco 7960G phone crashes during SIP upgrade
Hello, I've recently received a Cisco 7960G phone with the factory default SCCP firmware on it. As we're using SIP on our network, the first things i've done was to upgrade but unfortunately the phone just restarted. By looking on the TFTP logs and tcpump output, i've seen that the phone crashed and restarted just after downloading the OS79XX.TXT file, without requesting the image file at any moment. If i'm putting a SCCP image file name (without ext.) on the OS79XX.TXT (beg...

Speex SIP support in the "Asterisk" PBX, FYI
...my recent patches to support dynamic RTP payload types. As a consequence, its SIP implementation now supports Speex, so if you have a Speex-compatible SIP client, you can use it to make calls using Asterisk. Some caveats: - Only narrowband (8 kHz) Speex is currently supported; not wideband. (Unfortunately, the assumption that audio sample rate == 8 kHz is riddled throughout the Asterisk code.) - Each outgoing RTP packet (from Asterisk) contains just a single Speex frame. Similarly, each incoming RTP packet (from a client) should contain just a single Speex frame. - Some existing clients (such...
