Cisco 7920 Image
Does anyone know if there is a Smartnet contract or whatnot available from
Cisco for access to the latest 7920 images?
I've got one w/ asterisk that is exhibiting a few of the documented bugs
running 1.0.3 (1.0.7 is the latest IIRC).
Thanks!

Old managers will change its the LaLawyershat don't
change. Every dam law office that I been in has at
least one fax machine that is constantly printing
something out. But to say fax is dead is an
understatement.
AT&T said that about teletype service, you know 50 -
300 baud service, years ago and then one day they
noticed that traffic across their teletype
seservicetarted growing.

Problem with ssh limit and scp stalling
Hi,
I have a very simple server setup, using shorewall as my firewall. I
have a line like this at the top of my rules file to allow ssh
connections, but limited to 3 connection per minute with a burst rate
of 3:
SSH/ACCEPT net $FW - - -
- 3/min:3 -
Now when I have that in place, and from a remote machine run scp
server:/some/file ., I find

A software FAX modem
Hi all,
I would like to announce the availability of an initial test version of
a totally software FAX facility, suitable for use with Asterisk. This is
a first public test release, so don't expect a solid polished product
just yet. People have shown interest in what I am doing, and here is the
evidence that it is not vapourware.
If the notion of a software FAX machine is new to you,

Fax Problems with SpanDSP
Hi list,
I'm running current SpanDSP

with Asterisk 1.2.22 somewhat successfully.
Most Fax machines do work but I have problems with people having
Tobit FaxWare and Shamrock CapiFax.

Asterisk Faxing Support
...end your call to
a T.38 gateway and you must not use NAT anywhere in your network and
you must enable re-invites which could cause CDRs not to reflect the
true details of the call.
Asterisk/Digium also has no interest in any further interest in
expanding T.38 or faxing support in Asterisk.
Steve Underwood and the other fine persons that have helped to develop
the software DSPs and other stuff required for FoIP support also have
no interest in writing any further faxing support for Asterisk (RxFax,
TxFax + the newest span_dsp wont even compile, much less work under
Asterisk any more) probably because...

*** ITU T.38 -- Fax over VoIP
Fax over VoIP is a hot issue. VoIP service providers encourage people
to switch to VoIP,
but often forget to mention that faxing over VoIP is like russian
roulette. On a local LAN,
it might work if you pick a clear channel codec like G.711. Steve
Underwood, member of
the Asterisk developer team, has writen a good article about the
problems involved and
the solutions for it on his web site, the URL is http://soft-
switch.org/foip.html
T.38 is an ITU standard for fax over VoIP. To simplify, the idea is
to decode the fax audio
stream at the ingres...

Which SpanDSP version to play with Asterisk 10 and T.38/T.30 gatewaying ?
Hi,
Maybe I missed it while checking it, but which spandsp version is
recommended to play with Asterisk 10 and T.38/T.30 gatewaying ?
I can see both spandsp-0.0.6pre17.tgz and spandsp-0.0.6pre18.tgz here
(http://www.soft-switch.org/downloads/spandsp/) but I couldn't find a
changelog documenting differences between them.
So I prefer to double check ask for recommendations.

Strategy for maintaining R in student PC labs
...mean that this year they would update to version
2.11.1 and would just miss 2.12.0 and would not update again until
September 2011. I think we might need a more flexible strategy than this
and am curious how others manage it.
Thanks in advance

Know what would be killer?
If call recordings were stored in stereo and the callers were evenly
distributed along the stereo spectrum. BAM.
Just a cool idea I thought up, but probably completely impossible, and
even if not, likely too much work for too little reward. Even less
likely would be live stereo conference calling. But hey, RTP certainly
supports stereo streams, right? I don't know if any of the used codecs

SoftFax question
Hi,
I am looking at using the softfax that Steve Underwood has developed.
It's very straight forward when you assign an extension for the fax.
A function that several pbx's has is that they listen for the 'faxtone'
for 5 seconds
after 'answer' in the menu where you can enter your local extension number,
it's normally done in pa...
