odfWeave learning resources
In general I try not to post questions to forums until I've tried my best to
read about them in the available documentation. I recently undertook a
project that used odfWeave and have been very pleased with the package.
But, the R help documentation suggests that there are more sophisticated
things I can do - for example, with conditionally formatted tables.
Can anyone point me to resources I could review to educate myself about the
full...

Migrating Domain from TNG to 2.2.2: A cautionary tale
Hello,
We recently undertook to migrate our domain from samba-TNG to samba-2.2.2.
However, it did not go smoothly. One of the main reasons is that even
if you start 2.2.2 with the domain SID from the TNG installation, you
find that the users' RIDs are different. This is because samba-TNG
calculates the RID from the unix UI...

Postfix pages
First I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to the Postfix
pages so far. I recently undertook replacing our existing mail server
(which used the CentOS 4 howto at hughesjr.com) with a new machine
running CentOS 5 in Xen. The machine is actually running two Xen images:
mail and web server (the old machine did both functions in one install).
I have done two things that go beyond the existi...

Web Interface to rysnc
...files. These users are both MAC and Windows
based. We are a web design and hosting company.
I have been monitoring this group and other newsgroups and experimenting
with rsync. I know there is a perl module that wraps rsync, and I will
probably use it.
Does anyone know if anyone else has already undertook a project of this type
already? I don't want to re-invent the wheel. I have not seen much mention
of any web-based interfaces or wrappers (other than the perl module).
There's usually people creating web-based interfaces to just about
everything, but I have not seen this yet. I think it can...

Nonlinear statistical modeling -- a comparison of R and AD Model Builder
...ny R users understimate the numerical challenges
that some of the typical nonlinear statistical model used in different
fields present. R may not be a suitable platform for development for
such models.
Around 10 years ago John Schnute, Laura Richards, and Norm Olsen
with Canadian federal fisheries undertook an investigation
comparing various statistical modeling packages for a simple
age-structured statistical model of the type commonly used in
fisheries. They compared AD Mdel Builder, Gauss, Matlab, and
Splus. Unfortunately a working model could not be produced with Splus
so its times could not be in...

Trying to resolve issues on samba-3.0.11
Recently, we undertook to upgrade our samba server 2.2.8a towards version

to understand.

Member server won't authenticate against Samba BDC
For the last few years, we have had a NT4 PDC (without a BDC).
This week I undertook the process of builing a Samba BDC running
Debian linux. This new BDC is running samba version 3.0.7. After
setting up the box, I copied all of the user, group, and machine
accounts over to the new bdc, using "net rpc vampire".
The BDC is up and running and I see everybody authenticati...

R/C++ interfaces: crashes when using .c(), followed by correct results when R restarted
...wrong outputs. However, when I restarted R after the crash, the results turned out to be OK most of the time although I had not modified the C++ code.
Although the code runs correctly now, I am not sure why it does work right now, and didn't just an hour ago.
Let me summarize the main steps I undertook:
* After having modified the script with the C++ code, I compiled it using R CMD SHLIB mylatestversion.cpp - no problems occurred then.
* Next, I loaded the dll into R with
dyn.load("C:\\Ccodefortransortmodel\\ mylatestversion.dll")
* Next, I called equil_distC with
testres2 <- .C(&qu...

help booting iso's?
Hi. I prefer using the syslinux boot loader and recently undertook a
project of creating a multiboot USB drive that boots using syslinux. The
aim is to create a medium from which various live linux environments can
be run for things like system maintenance, installation, and perhaps
demonstration. I anticipate using this multiboot USB drive on mostly
legacy,...

Perl module
I recently undertook the task of adding "Write" support to the Perl
module Ogg::Vorbis::Header::PurePerl (because of the simplicity of cross
platform use). Seeing as this list would have the most knowledge about
the proper methods regarding this task, I'm submitting this for anyone
to look at before it (p...

CentOS position on systems intrusion at Red Hat

We take security issues very seriously, and as soon as we were made aware of the
situation I undertook a complete audit of the entire CentOS4/5 Build and Signing
infrastructure. We can now assure everyone that no compromise has taken place
anywhere within the CentOS Infrastructure. Our entire setup is located behind
multiple firewalls, and only accessible from a very small number of

Proposed header file changes to allow for dynamic linking of DLLs at runtime
...ax (a ripper + encoder program), I wanted to make all
encoder DLLs dynamically linkable at runtime. I first check for the
existence of the dll, open the library with Load Library and then do a
GetProcAddress for each routine I plan to use. With the original header
files, this was not possible. So I undertook to modify the headers I needed
to provide the desired functionality.
The enclosed headers provide two new aspects: 1) the selection of a either
the standard LIB linkage process or the use of LoadLibrary/GetProcAddress
usage via a #define in the main code (search for _OGGLIB, _VORBISLIB and
_VORBIS...

At one point in time these were nearly all WinXP boxes (exceptions are a
couple of #3 son's Gentoo machines whose primary purpose I think is
hacking into stuff... but that's also another topic). Late last year I
decided to see if you really can teach an old dog new tricks. I
undertook converting one of the 'crunchers' to Xubuntu. OK, so now you
know I'm a Linux noob. Fast forward to today.... The network now has
about 15 stationary machines and 3 or 4 that come and go. All the
'crunchers' are Xubuntu 64b (v8.04 except one v7.10), one of the
desktops is...

Xyratex News Regarding Lustre - Press Release
Greetings Community!
Today we are very excited to announce that Xyratex has purchased Lustre? and its assets from Oracle. We intend for Lustre to remain an open-source, community-driven file system to be promoted by our community organizations. We undertook the acquisition because we realize its importance to the entire community and we want to help ensure that it will continue to deliver for all of us over the long term. This is critically important to the growth and vitality of Lustre; it?s how it became what it is today, and it?s how it will deliv...

DHCP/DNS server for LAN with mainly Windows clients : Outlook Express vs. Webmail problem
...LAN consisting of 15
Windows XP clients. The LAN is eventually expected to migrate to Linux,
at least some of the client machines.
The previous setup made by a local Windows-only computer firm was an
unhealthy mix of static and dynamic IP addresses with conflicting
adresses, etc. First thing I undertook was clean up this mess by setting
up a DHCP + local cache DNS server on the Linux machine.
Now the curious problem I have: IP addresses are attributed correctly,
people can surf on the internet all right. But the only thing they can't
seem to do is send mail with Outlook or Outlook Express....

English translation of article on HFSC
...3] (I don''t know whether it is available yet).
The HFSC queueing discipline itself was written by Patrick McHardy
and added to the Linux kernel over two years ago, yet there isn''t a
great deal of documentation in English on the implementation itself,
as he himself observes.
I undertook this effort as a result of a posting on this list [4]
from several weeks ago, inquiring about further documentation on
HSFC. Thanks very much to Klaus Rechert for reviewing the
translation and Linux Magazin for allowing the English translation
to be distributed.
The academic work underlying H...
