Spatio-temporal analysis of homicide rates
...ccount both the spatial dimension (103 provinces) and the temporal dimension (10 years), but no covariates. In practice, what I would like to do is to describe spatio-temporal variation of homicide rates, identifying those combinations of province-year where the homicide rate is either over- or underrepresented based on Poisson expectation. Is it possible to carry out such an analysis with R? If so, what package should be preferred? GLMMGibbs, geoRglm, and function glmmPQL in MASS package sound as possible choices to me, but I'm no expert of this kind of analysis and I'd much appreciate any in...

test deviation from a binomial distribution - lack of 50:50
...rob=c(0.2, 0.6, 0.2)) success <- rbinom(50, n.trials, p=0.5) failure <- n.trials - success I know I could test for a deviation from 50:50 success:failure in one or the other direction using a glm with binomial errors. However, I suspect that in my 'real' data set the outcome 50:50 is underrepresented, not due to a skew in one particular direction, but rather that within each observation there are either many successes or many failures. Although I did not manage to create a dummy data set with these properties, which would be the proper way in R to test for a 'lack of 50:50 outcome' usin...

Seeking Outreachy internship project proposals
...this program, the LLVM Foundation will be sponsoring 1 intern. Ideally we would like a few project proposals for applicants to pick from. These can range from entry level documentation projects to more technical. Outreachy is a program that provides internships for people from groups traditionally underrepresented in tech. Interns are paid a stipend of $5,500 for a three month internship. The internship is completely remote, and interns come from around the world. Interns work one-on-one with a mentor from Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) communities. The internship projects range from programming, user...

Double negative, so I take your statement to mean that there *is* such

[LLVMdev] Lowering switch statements with PGO
After messing around with this a bit recently, I've come to the following conclusions: 1. One issue is at what granularity to consider the PGO weightings. For example, should a set of 50 consecutive cases with 65% of the total weight distributed approximately evenly and which can be lowered to a table lookup be handled before the 3 remaining cases that 5%, 10%, and 20% probability,
