possible interesting R projects for undergrads
Dear R People:
I finally (Yay!) got R installed in a classroom!
Anyhow, I have a respectful request, please: could anyone recommend
some nice undergrad projects in R, please?
This is in a statistical computation class; first time being run.
Thanks,
Erin

[O/T] undergrads and R
Dear R People:
Are your undergraduate students receptive to learning R, as a rule?
Most of the time, mine really like it. But this semester, they act as
though they are being eaten by rats when learning R. They are not
trying at all.
Any similar experiences? If anyone has any good ideas, I would be
THRILLED to hear them, as I am using R in Summer School.
Thanks,
Sincerely,

[LLVMdev] GVN PRE algorithms in LLVM
Hello everyone
I am Rakshit Singla, a third year undergrad at IIT Hyderabad, India. I
finished a basic compilers course last semester and am currently doing a
compiler optimizations course. I have been exploring LLVM for the past few
months (wrote a front-end for the Classroom Object Oriented Language and
have been studying pieces of code.) I would like to work with LLVM and
contribute to the

R-beta: Book "Data Analysis with R" (undergrad. teaching) ??
This was ``accidentally'' only sent to me.
But I think the question (and possibly answers) should be relevant to much
more people!

[LLVMdev] GVN PRE algorithms in LLVM
The GVN algorithm used in LLVM currently (I'm rewriting it) is the basic
hash based RPO algorithm.
The new one i'm writing is based on http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=512536
(see https://github.com/dberlin/llvm-gvn-rewrite)
LLVM has different algorithms for both scalar PRE and load PRE.
They are basically variants of standard PRE algorithms transformed into
SSA, but with some

using R for online course/distance ed
Hi R People!
I'm going to be putting together a completely online undergrad
business stats course (a second semester course) and was going to use
R and Rcmdr.
My question: has anyone else used R for an online course, please? If
so, did it go well, please?
Thanks in advance,
Sincerely,
Erin

Contributing to LLVM
Hello all,
I am a grad student looking to get my hands wet contributing to LLVM. I
have done an undergrad course in Compilers. I have some knowledge of
parsers, code generation, optimization, IR and other topics taught in an
undergrad course. I have worked through quite a bit of the dragon book. Is
there a guide to get newbie devs up to speed on the process of
contributing? Do I just build the

Hey guys,I am a 3rd year Computer Science undergrad student.I a extremely
interested in contributing code to the XAPIAN project. The work you people
do sounds extremely fascinating and interesting. Can someone just give me a
brief overview of how to proceed ?. I Can code in C,C++ and Python and
have experience in Natural Lanuage Processing.Am also quite comfortable
with NLTK and using Wordnet.Am

Hello all,
I'm a rising sophomore CS/Engineering student in the US and I'm
interested in programming languages/ compilers.I think the LLVM would
be a great project for me to contribute to, both to learn something
and help the project. Unfortunately, I don't know much about
compilers, much less anything which would allow me to make a
significant contribution. I've started reading

Student Introduction
Greetings,
I am Hemant Kumar Singh, a computer science undergrad studying in NIT Warangal, India. I am interested to work on the project "Weighting Schemes" under the guidance of Olly Bets and Gaurav Arora; this project requires basic(or better) C++ knowledge and I've done 2 years of basic C++ in my high school. Moreover, this is my 2nd semester pursuing a computer science major in

fix for oggdrop disappearing window
Hi,
I don't know if this problem has been looked at yet. The latest version of
oggdrop I found was at
http://www.vorbis.com/files/beta4/windows/oggdrop-1.0beta4.zip. If you whip
the window quickly from right to left, the client mouse coordinate in
WM_MOUSEMOVE *can* be negative and so the LOWORD and HIWORD macros will cast
the mouse coordinates to insanely high 64K-ish values. Then the

Introductory statistics and introduction to R
Hi,
I have a bright, diligent second-year graduate student who wants to
learn statistics and R and will, in effect, be taking a tutorial from me
on these subjects. (If you've seen some of my questions on this list,
please don't laugh.) As an undergrad he majored in philosophy, so this
will be his first foray into computer programming and statistics.
I'm thinking of having him use

[GSoC] Prospective student for Unify ways to move code or check if code is safe to be moved
Hello,
I am an undergrad from India. This summer I'm interested in working on
unifying the code motion checks as a GSoC intern with LLVM. I started
reading about classical data flow analysis since few months, I see this as
a great opportunity to start contributing to LLVM. The idea of unifying all
the code motion checks into one place seems very rational and interesting
to me. As in the

My name is Abhishek and I?m a 2nd year undergrad at Indian Institute of
Technology Roorkee. I've experience in programming (Java, C++, python) and
web development(PHP, javascript, jquery, CSS). I went through the project
ideas mentioned on your GSOC web page and found "Performance Test Suite" quite
interesting. Could I have more information about this project?
