get_pin for scard-opensc.c
I'm attaching a patch to allow ssh client to get a pin from the command line
when using a smartcard. Most of it is from a patch by Danny De Cock
<godot () ulyssis ! org>, but I've used the ssh read_passphrase function
instead. Any errors are mine, I'm sure.
This enables ssh -I 0 to use a pin-protected smartcard via opensc.
Thanks,
Kevin Stefanik

OpenSSH Security Advisory: buffer.adv
This is the 1st revision of the Advisory.
This document can be found at: http://www.openssh.com/txt/buffer.adv
1. Versions affected:
All versions of OpenSSH's sshd prior to 3.7 contain a buffer
management error. It is uncertain whether this error is
potentially exploitable, however, we prefer to see bugs
fixed proactively.
2. Solution:
Upgrade to OpenSSH

Yum Update
Why is it when i do a "yum list all kernel*" I only get 4 packages
returned from the centosplus repo when in fact there are many many
more if I go look in the RPMS folder where it's pulling the packages
from?
I'm trying to install the basic unsupported kernel (smp) to get XFS
support but it doesn't appear when i do a yum list nor can i seem to
get it to install when i

How to properly install VLC?
Hi all,
My colleagues and friends from time to time send me .wmv files and I'd
like to be able to view them under CentOS.
VLC was recommended to me, and AFAIR about a half year ago I tried
installing it. I don't remember the exact details, but I do remember
that the Red Hat and Fedora binary distributions didn't work without
giving all sorts of errors. I _think_ I then did a

I guess this would require a new protocol specification and maybe the
task of the IETF Secure Shell Working Group.

MAP_ANON replacement?
Here I would like to suggest a replacement for MAP_ANON on systems which
do not have it, such as Solaris < 8. In "man mmap" of Solaris 8:
When MAP_ANON is set in flags, and fd is set to -1, mmap()
provides a direct path to return anonymous pages to the
caller. This operation is equivalent to passing mmap() an
open file descriptor on /dev/zero with

(In)valid RSA key?
Hi.
In testing my SSH 2 server implementation (Dropbear), I've come across
certain RSA hostkeys which fail for use with PuTTY as a client. Converting
the keys for use with OpenSSH they also fail with PuTTY, which leads me to
wonder whether they are valid keys or not.
A sample key is attached, the important point to note is that the modulus
(n) value doesn't have a multiple-of-8 number of

Patch for OpenSSH/mmap() on Linux 2.2
A colleague was having trouble running OpenSSH 3.3p on his server.
He, like many of us, has been clobbered by the mighty security penis
of Theo De Raadt into enabling "privsep".
But on some Linux 2.2 kernels, this is broken. Apparantly, OpenSSH "portable"
relies on non-POSIX compliant mmap() features.
Making the mmap() call in monitor_mm.c look something like this:

Dag repository...
A bit of a new guy around these parts...
I've done a bit of looking, and haven't found any newbie-friendly
instructions on how to add the Dag repository to my CentOS4 box. Could
somebody help me out and point me in the right direction? Thanks...

Latest CVS: no fonts?
Is this bug 5057? ...
I've just installed the latest version of wine from CVS and created a new
.wine directory. Upon running winecfg, there are no letters on any of the
buttons or tabs. After reading the text of bug 5057, I checked
.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts and there are no files.
I copied and pasted all of the font files from the equivalent location in
one of my backups to this

...t: it doesn't check the .hdr files, apt config or
old yum config stuff.. but it might give the list of rpm packages with a wrong
checksum so we can ask heanet to check those files.
thanks in advance!

MS-Client
Hi!
I use MS-Client for pre-Windows 95 computers to use shares on my Linux
boxes, but also to serve their disks to everyone else.
This used to work, but I gradually upgraded and problems arose.
This afternoon, I wanted to use smbclient to access a share on the
Dos-computer, it gave listings of what was there, but I couldnt retrieve
any file. Mounting didn't work either, because I still had
