sun4v arch
I would also like to help as well. As KMacy knows before i asked a lot of questions for T2 types of servers but unfortunately i have no more access to those kind of hardware as well. I;m willing to participate if a team will be formated.

Sun Servers with UltraSparc Processors
...ased VoIP solution. Not my immediate thoughts as a VoIP platform, but from what I've heard, they can run Linux, and run it well. Only thing is: The Wiki and the Whitepaper just state that Asterisk is for the x86 architecture, but has been compiled to run on PPC architectures. No mention of UltraSparc. If I can get it compiled, what would I be loosing in terms of functions or what problems might I face? Would other 3rd party code (add ons and bolts on) work too, are these tied to platforms, or just to Asterisk itself? I've not got long to decide about the machines - so any feedback would...

Slow VC++ builds from Linux fileserver
...5 box as a fileserver chiefly for software development under VC++. Builds are done from the command line, not the IDE. I'm seeing rather slow build performance under NT4SP3. Build performance is fine under Win95. Build performance is also good when building from Samba 1.9.18p8 running on a Sun UltraSparc. To give some concrete figures, building a AppWizard generated project under NT4 takes 33 seconds when the project files sit on the UltraSparc and 165 seconds when they sit on Linux. When built under W95 (on a slower machine - NT4 is 200 MHz PII w/ 128Mb, W95 is a 90MHz Pentium with 64Mb), the bui...

Success report with 2.4.12 on UltraSPARC
I felt like some excitement today[0], and so I ported[1] Andrew's patch for 2.4.10 to 2.4.12 and gave it a try. Everything is solid so far; I did a copy of each of two large kernel trees I have lying around and diffed them, followed by an rm -rf of the copies. Everything stayed smooth and stable. Great work, folks. Here's to a merge with mainline! Regards, Sean. [0] It's

Hot swap CPU
From: Rodrigo Barbosa <rodrigob at suespammers.org> > Btw, don't quote me on this one :) > I'm only 90% sure of the hotswapping capabilities, and less than 50% > sure about the price :) There _are_ systems with hot-swap CPUs, memory and/or, PCI[-X] slots. They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support. In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for

randomForest() segfaults under Solaris(SPARC) 2.7
Invocation of randomForest() using the iris example in the help file crashes R with a segmentation fault. This happens on all of our ultraSPARC machines running Solaris 2.7. We're using R-1.4.1, compiled using Sun cc and f77 and the flags: CC=cc CFLAGS="-xO5 -xlibmil -dalign" FC=f77 FFLAGS="-xO5 -xlibmil -dalign" "make check" runs withour errors, and R has been working well for all other applications/in...

EOF error at io.c line 165
Hello All, I keep getting rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1074142 bytes read so far) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(165). Does anyone have any idea of what could cause this? I've gotten the same error on two seperate machines. One UltraSparc running Linux and the other a SparcStation running OpenBSD. We have an x86-SMP system running linux on the same network, and it works fine. -Thomas <tcort@cs.ubishops.ca>

Sun Microsystems Quad gigabit ethernet nic compatibility
Hello I am thinking of buying this card to and wanted to know if this NIC is supported. The card is a Sun Microsystems PCI-X Quad-Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter QGEXPCI 501-6738-10. Can't find any info on how well the card plays with centos and also proxmox ve (if any of you use that distro ) If things don't seem to work I may bite the bullet and buy an Intel card thanks Rafeal Stewart

infinite loop in make for src/unix (PR#2477)
...unning initial 'make' everything went fine until src/unix. At which point it kept entering and exiting src/unix without doing anything. I fixed the problem by deleting the dependencies on Makefile for the Makedeps and R targets. I am using gnu Make 3.79, gcc 2.95.3, Solaris SunOS5.8 on an UltraSparc. I double checked that I had found the problem by rerunning make with the distributed makefile restored, but the looping behavior did not recur. When I ran make check, everything semed to be OK.

weird DH problems
Dear Damien and Darren, I recently ran into a really weird and spooky ssh problem. My brain is going to mad trying to explain that it is a hardware issue since on two machines, one of which is a Celeon 2.8 Ghz with 1 GB RAM, another is a Xeon 4 CPU box with 3 Gig RAM and I guess 3 Ghz or something, both of which are running FreeBSD 6.1 with latest version of OpenSSH bundled with it. The version
