Is ext3 the right choice?
...that to keep ext3 safe, we must umount these
devices cleanly before rebooting to let the kernel flush useful
information to the disks. On a PC we don't do many reboots. Even dirty
reboots without umount happen, data are very likely to be recovered.
And yet we have experienced administrators and uitilities like e2fsck
to resort to. But even then there are still chances that disks could
fail.
Embedded systems are quite different. Developers and customers could
pull out the battery at all times. It's unpredictable. Consequently
there should be much more chances than on a PC that a disk failur...

OS X proxy question
All,
I'm currently using R 2.0.1 on a Powerbook G4 with OS X 10.3.8. So far
the only way I've found to set my proxy is by doing
Sys.putenv("http_proxy"="<insert proxy url>:<proxy port>) everytime I
start up R.
This works fine, but I'd like to find a solution that doesnt require
manual input everytime I start up R. Does any one have a better way of

Adding local group -> Access denied

Hi there,
short question: I try to add a local group via the NT-Usermanager
("usrmgr.exe"), but everytime I get a "Access denied". Adding a global
group works. I'm logged on as "Administrator". I'm running Samba 3.0.14a
on Debian Sarge (testing) with the smbldap-tools (v0.8.8).
What could I have done wrong?
