Visual Studio/Samba Compile from Shares issue
I've run into a problem in which Visual Studio 6.0 gives an Internal
Compiler Error message when compiling from a samba share. The project
compiles fine locally and from shares on Windows machines. To me this
suggests that the issue is with Samba. I've tried adding full access to
the share where the project is housed, but to no avail. Any ideas? We
are running samba 3.0.9-1.3E.2

Hi,
A few weeks ago I announced a rewritten PROFILES.txt on the mailing
list.
It is available on http://users.iafrica.com/p/pc/pcs/profiles.txt
The idea of it is to explain exactly how NT and 95 handles roaming
profiles and then specify how to set up samba to enable both to handle
roaming profiles.
Most of the document it finished, and I would like to contribute it, but
I have a few things to

Printing w/ CUPS
When using CUPS with Samba 2.2.x do all printers need to be installed
per user? That is, can I not go through as administrator in WinXP and
install all of the printers for, say, a group of labs, and then have
them installed and available to have them set as the default w/ a script
as users login as domain users?

Domain Login Error: "ADVANCED INF INSTALL error"
Has anyone seen this error before?
ADVANCED INF INSTALL error: "%Remove_nodir_error%"
This is the error that all domain users get upon first logon with WinXP.
It only appears for the first time they login, and it has nothing to do
with any registry tweaks because it comes up even for a fresh XP
install. Further, subsequent domain logins don't have this error but
there is a

MS Access XP and Samba Print Queues
MS Access XP appears to handle the default printer setup differently
than the other apps in the Office suite. Here is the problem we are
running into. When you open Access and mouseover the printer icon on the
toolbar it usually should display a popup after a remote procedure call
that tells you what the default printer is set as. This is very
important because a great deal of the

PDC/BDC Distribution Question
I'm looking for input from other institutions out there that are using
the samba PDC/BDC setup. At our institution we have the potential for
nearly 500 network clients on our domain and we are considering
expanding that to 1,000 clients. According to John Terpstra in his
Samba-3 book there should be a BDC for every 50 network clients on the
domain. We are currently running a solitary

Netscape profile scripts?
A while back there was a thread in which many people were discussing how
to make Netscape work with roaming profiles. There was some talk about
how this would require a script to modify the registry, etc. I just
talked to one of the NS programmers who said that the problem would be
fixed and even enhanced in a version 4.5. He didn't say whether the 4.5
code was going to be an internal or

Shared Folders
I was just wondering if any thought has been given to shared folders and
how they might be implemented yet? True shared folders are compelling
enough to our organization that I've been looking into moving to Cyrus
from Courier, but transparent folder migration looks to be nearly
impossible for more than a handful of accounts... so that leaves me back
at hoping courier or dovecot can

1 BDC per 50 Clients? Can that really be true? (HOWTO)
In "the 500 user office" section of the Samba Guide, John Terpstra
lists some seriously disappointing numbers for Samba scalability. To
quote, "As a general rule, there should be at least one Backup Domain
Controller per 50 Windows network clients. The principle behind this
recommendation is the fact that correct operation of MS Windows clients
requires rapid network response
