rpc and wine
can someone tell me how to get RPC and WINE to work in conjunction with one
another? I have serious need to run an RPC application under linux's WINE
port. If I cannot find a solution, I'm regretably going to have to change
the OS to windows which I'd prefer not to do.
Thanks,
Chris

Any ideas? The client machine runs Windows 2000 Pro.

work around for gcc bug?
Hi,
On the virbis.com website, it is published that gcc needs to
be upgraded to avoid a gcc bug.
However, it is not easy to ask the ISP to upgrade gcc due to many reasons.
(It will be hard to ask upgrade in any production grade ISP platform!)
Can you develop some kind of work around?
Say, use an configure option to bypass this bug.
Thanks,
Steve

Hackers on my Web server
I have discovered that a gamer has hacked into my web server through a
backdoor left open by my predecessor. I have closed the door, but when I
try to delete the folders left behind I receive "Access Denied", or when
I try to take ownership I receive "Unable to Find File...". I have
removed most of the files to obtain enough space to continue operations
but would like to remove

Wine routinely crashes X (!!) while building font metrics
...if I run wine on my desktop, with the display
exported to my laptop (export DISPLAY=deagol:0.0; wine foo), it crashes
the laptop's X server! I guess X really -is- network-transparent ;)
Anyhow, this is a major problem. Can anyone help me?

need help on scp (fwd)
where is --with-default-path= documented?
in the INSTALL? in the FAQ? it should be probably
a FAQ. perhaps configure should print a warning/notice
if scp is installed in a non-standard path?

Samba on AIX
To Whom it may concern:
I am new to the samba world. I need to get samba running on AIX 4.3. Is there a
different download than the one that is on the site or are they all the same. I
downloaded samba-3.11.tar.tar. When I try and untar it on the system, it gives
me an error. Any help from you would be appreciated.

Loosing admin privileges after login
Hello,
I am a Samba-newbie, so please excuse, if my question
seems to you stupid.
I've set up a PDC, based on Samba 3.0.14a (SerNet) and
a OpenLDAP-Server. So I took a Windows XP client and
integrated it to the domain. Afterwards I logged in as
administrator and copied the existing profile of an
user to the server.
The user was able to login and his profile was loaded
from the server. But I

Debugging Privilege and Samba 3.0.11
Hello,
I am striving to give out globally to our developers a way to debug
their C++ applications, but I do not want to give them Admin rights on
the individual workstations.
I thought I found the light when reading on MSDN that to debug users
need to be members of the "Debugger Users" group (according to VS.Net).
This group seems to be created with a random SID when installing

Surely this is do-able?

Re: Severe problem with Icecast2 and streamTranscoder
Michael Smith wrote:

It seems you were correct. After updating my kernel (!), the CPU load
figures given by 'top' and 'ps' for streamTranscoder suddenly rose from
0.0-0.3% to about 30-60%. There are occasional peaks above that, which
might very well be causing the problem. And the system load now shows
