dup.name()
Thanks to David Scott for noticing a glitch in dup.name().
It should be:
dup.name<-function(name) {
if(is.character(name))
return(sum(match(objects(1:length(search())),name,nomatch=0)) > 0)
cat("Usage: dup.name(name)\n\twhere name is a character string\n")
}
this avoids matching part of the name...

exhaustive permutations
Hello R-help Readers
I'm currently in the process of trying to write a permutation test
procedure for looking at differences between groups with a multivariate
data set (something equivalent to ANOSIM - analaysis of similarities for
those familiar with this test). As with other permutation tests, for
cases where there are large numbers of possible permutations, randomly
sampling from these

stars graphs
Hi listers,
A few days ago I posted a question about the use of the stars function
on selected lines of a frame. Thanks to two helpers, a closer look at
the scale argument allowed to partially solve the problem. Yet I still
have a problem with stars.
Allow me to explain what I intend to do (sorry for my poor English and
the long post):
I want to graph an activity index of a fish during the day
