XP clients regularly lose connection
Hi,
We have Samba 2.2.8 on RedHat 9.0 (from rpm).
We connect about 5 Win XP Professional PC's (with Service Pack 1)
to the server.
Roaming profiles are set up.
After about 30 minutes client connections are lost to the server and
the users cannot reconnect to the server, even if samba is restarted.
A reboot of the server is required.
This occurs, it seems at this stage, when large

CD emulation (a la daemontools)
I was wondering if anyone was aware of a method for mounting virtual CD
devices with CD image files. I keep images (.CUE/.BIN pairs) of my CD
collection on a NAS appliance tucked away in my closet. I'd like to
write a script to mount each one, create ID tags, rip the tracks, then
move along to the next one. I figure with a quad core opteron, it
should be able to crank through them in a few days (it's a few thousand
CD's worth of images). Anyone done this...

SIP "unphones"
...akerphone. I'd like to be able to dial a sip-extension and make an
announcement (PA) and/or simply listen in to a room (baby-monitor).
Yes, I know, some of the more advanced phones can be configured to
behave like that, but it seems to a waste of money to have all those
fancy displays and keys tucked away behind a speakergrille and drywall.
BTW, I'm not dead-set on SIP, but it seems to be the most logical
protocol for this app (NOTIFY msg can carry directions on
mike/speaker/two-way, etc)

Jazzing up the Task Views index page
...ow many times do I have to say "have
you read the Optimisation Task View?"?' and I poured some fuel on that
fire by saying "Task Views" was a stupid name.
Anyway, I did say that Task Views were rather brilliant, but were let
down by their hidden position on the R web sites (tucked away as the
third element of a sub-menu of a CRAN mirror site linked to by the
CRAN link from the Download menu on the main R home page). The index
page is rather plain, so I designed a more engaging one. The result of
my effort is now here:

Or signal interference. Where is the antennae located on the server? Ran
into signal issues with antennae which were tucked behind the server before.

[LLVMdev] patches and problem...
Hmm,
I guess I need a sys::Math::getRandom() function that uses a "good" random
number generator on the given platform. I'll make a note of this and tuck it
away for future implementation.

Dynamic Queue Members - Auto Logoff
Another quick question (Spending the day trying to get this project sorted
and tucked away) If I am dynamically adding queue members, they will not
abide to settings within agents.conf will they?
Ie. I need the equivalent of Autologoff however want my agents to receive
calls when someone joins the queue, not have to sit on hold all day. I see

CentOS 8 partiitioning for reliability
I was just given a Dell R720xd with 160 GB memory and 12x 900 GB drives
that I plan to deploy as my home mail/file/backup server to replace an
aging Supermicro server running CentOS 7. Yeah, it's gross overkill for
that and I expect to tuck most of the drives away for spares.
How should I RAID and partition this beast for maximum reliability?
My current C7 system is using 1 TB of 2 TB

Question on lists and vectors of lists
I have an elementary programming question. Could someone please point
me in the right direction?
I have a function which will run for thousands of companies. At each
invocation, it returns 2 numbers. I plan to do something like:
think_one_firm <- function(filename) {
# Do stuff
return(list(x=x,y=y))
}
So for each of the firms in my dataset, I will call

Somewhere tucked in the back of my mind a memory is screaming no. Wasn't there
a problem with lm_sensors where we were all told to remove / not install it
because of serious problems with the package possibly even breaking things.
Presumably that's no longer the case

Yes, our spectrometers that run VNMRJ are not allowed directly on the
network. They are tucked away safely behind a NAT'd firewall with very
few ports open and access is only allowed by proxy ssh from a few IP
addresses (for some reason the users want to retrieve their data from
it!). The extra cost of a firewall is nothing compared to the cost of
the instrument.

best way to ensure integrity of flac source files?
if there was a flac-users list i'd be asking these questions there, but
anyway =)
on windows, i've been using eac in secure mode and using "test & copy" to
verify that the crc checksums match. invariably, i'll get one or two
mismatches per album i rip, so i figure the checksum verification is a good
thing despite the extra time. once i rip a cd, i want to forget

pretty thought out.
I do also recall some software being written a long time back, like 2000
or 2001, for doing this sort of thing. I think it was written for a
specific project (maybe control of lighting via MIDI?). I think it was
tucked away in the Xiph repository somewhere.

I noticed a performance regression in virtio net: going from
