how can I use lmer on a windows machine?
...is version will support these packages (when I install them from
the GUI, the function lmer does not work). I wondered if I need to
install a newer version of R, and if so, which version should I install,
and how should I do that?
Thank you so much for your time and help. Please send replies to

degrees of freedom and random effects in lmer
...t models with and
without random effects to see if the pattern of fixed effects is
different? I can look at random effects using "ranef(model_name)", but
this function does not assess their significance.
I am not subscribed to this list, so if possible, please reply to me
directly at tsfeldman@noble.org . Thank you for your time and help.

How do I report coefficients of categorical fixed effects in a publication?
...with how to report these effects succinctly, especially because for categorical variables, each category has its own estimated effect. What is a reasonable way to do this? Or should I just avoid it entirely?
I really appreciate your time and help. Please reply to tracysfeldman@yahoo.com or tsfeldman@noble.org

question about lmer--different answers from different versions of R?
...hat are not exactly the same (although I
do get the same general patterns of significance). Is there any reason
why an updated version of lmer in R would give different answers than
the same function in a previous version? See example below.
I appreciate your help. Please direct answers to tsfeldman@noble.org
