Subject: Privilege separation
Hello,
I have just installed openssh-3.4p1 on a COMPAQ/DEC/HP Alpha running
True64 UNIX v4.0F. The privilege separation option does not seem to
work properly. The syslog error message suggests that the problem is
that the sshd child crashes when it attempts to create an audgen record
after the password has been accepted and authenticated. The program
appears to work normally i...

wtmp repair - painless
...|7|:0
|20487|136.46.1.64 |
I do not have any idea whether this unknown IP address may be a successful
hacker attack or not. Or is the corruption the fault of the ext3 filesystem?
Despite that I`d like to know if there is any way of painless repair of wtmp
(like wtmpfix on AIX, True64).
Hexedit shows me a bit garbage (?), but my tries to repair the file have not
been successful until now.
thanks for any help

Wierd timestamp problem
Greetings,
We found out today that rsync has been missing some files. Here
is the senerio:
We have two nfs servers in different datacenters, one being the
backup to the other. We want to keep them up to date so we use rsync
inside crontabs. We have Solaris, AIX, True64 and VMS systems reading and
writing to the nfs drives. I am running rsync on Solaris 8 servers. What
seems to happen is when a file gets updated in a certain way on a VMS
system, it does not change the modification time of the file on the unix
servers. This seems to be a bug in multinet and...

2.2.8 doesn't compile on Tru64-5.1
HI,
I've successfully compile 2.2.8 on Solaris (6,7,8) and Linux. However on
Tru64-5.1 I get the following during the make:
Compiling smbd/dfree.c
Compiling smbd/dir.c
smbd/dir.c:649:70: macro "stat" passed 3 arguments, but takes just 2
smbd/dir.c:716:13: macro "stat" passed 3 arguments, but takes just 2
make: *** [smbd/dir.o] Error 1
Any ideas?

samba, pdc, ldap question
I have a question for those of you out there. I work at a
university where we already have our ldap systems in place
and use them for almost all authentication. I would like to
implement a samba file server that authenticates of our
existing ldap server. Would the best solution be to have
samba authticate off of ldap through pam. Is this even
available. Can anyone point me in the right

Conflict between NT-PDC and Samba 2.0.6
I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5
PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is
rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in
the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried
specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact
prior to upgrading to Samba version

Samba 2.2 alpha3 released
...e monitoring the feedback and this will help
for the next alpha.
The POSIX ACL mapping feature has been rewritten and now
supports Linux (using the patch at http://acl.bestbits.at/),
Solaris and UnixWare. IRIX is being worked on for the next
release. Implementations for other platforms (AIX, HPUX, True64
etc.) are welcome - look at the code in lib/sysacls.c for
the interface needed.
The documentation has been converted from yodl to DocBook
(thanks Gerald and the documentation authors) but there are
still a few missing parameters.
This code has been running under memory overrun/leak detectors

Hi,
we4re working in a NT/2000 enviroment and are using several samba
installations on True64 and RH 6.2. On two RH 6.2 machines we4ve installed
SAMBA 2.0.9 and we4ve one problem with it: each time a user tries to
reconnect to the share after a restart of his NT or 2000 machine he get4s
one of these two error message: "the network path could not be found" or

dear list members,
i have a samba 2.0.7 on a suse linux 7.1 running ok.
the linux/samba server mounts a directory on a DEC true64 unix box and
shares it via samba to win 9x clients.
the users pereodically create and overite a file on the DEC box which
they then want to open via there win clients. But they face the
following problem:
the user creates the file and opens it. eyering is fine.
he creates a new file and opens it....

I've always had many warnings. The reason is simple
the compaq compiler makes many verifications on the code
the compiler is very fastidious...
