Samba4 UNIX password sync
Hi List,
I am trialling a small Samba4 AD server supporting 10 users (running
fine). I also have exim smtp and dovecot imap running on the same
Debian Wheezy box. Simplistically, what I would like to achieve is for
an AD user account to also authenticate to imap and smtp using the same
credentials. I previously used...

Virtualising legacy CentOS 4.x servers
Dear all,
I look after a number of CentOS 4.x servers running legacy
applications that depend on ancient versions of various things (such
as MySQL 3.x) and which can't be upgraded without non-trivial
development effort.
I've been considering virtualising them and as a test have been
trialling with a company that uses Parallels Cloud Server 6.
However, I've run into a roadblock in that the Parallels Tools
installer in PCS6 require a version of glibc higher than that which
is available in CentOS 4.x (v2.5 required versus v2.3.4 installed).
Without the guest OS tools installed i...

Winbind and AD
...and
specifically what advantages the new 3.0 version of Samba provides. I've
looked at the release notes but I appear to be able to quite happily access
domain accounts/groups etc, browsing and so on with a RH 7.3 machine on my
Win2K domain using winbind and am not sure whether it is worth trialling V3.

Samba authentication against W2K Active Directory
...port become product, both product baseline and
expected date? Is there any product LDAP support in 2.2.0?
4. Can Samba do this sort of LDAP authentication as a stand-alone fileserver
or does it need to be configured as a DC?
I would be very grateful for any feedback from anyone who has already
trialled this sort of configuration.

IGMP
The BBC are currently trialling multicasting the Olympics. This requires
multicast and IGMP to be available. As far as I can make out, in 2.0.8
at least, all multicast addresses are filtered out and, to my naive
eyes, can''t be re-enabled.
Please prove me wrong :-)

getting TDM400P to work in a system that previously had Voicetronix card

it doesnt start up, after printing plenty of debug messages it finally
quits with giving the message
Can't open file /dev/vpb0 or /dev/vpbph0
These drivers were installed in the system for the voice tronix cards,
which we trialled previously. They (voice tronix cards and driver) are
no longer used. Even though we have compiled 'zaptel' commenting out
'ztdummy' we still get the error. We have tried to freshly compile all
files, but somehow asterisk thinks voice tronix cards are installed.

Multiple Comparisons for (multicomp - glht) for glm negative binomial (glm.nb)
Hi
I have some experimental data where I have counts of the number of
insects collected to different trap types rotated through 5 different
location (variable -location), 4 different chemical attractants [A, B,
C, D] were applied to the traps (variable - semio) and all were
trialled at two different CO2 release rates [1, 2] (variable CO2) I also
have a selection of continuous variables measuring meteorological
conditions to account for any bias cause by changing weather conditions,
the data is over dispersed so I have fitted a negative binomial glm
(glm.nb) and simplified us...

may have quite some delay. Usually it does not matter. In one case I
found a faulty server in the path between our originating site and
transmission site was causing transmission delays we could not buffer.

trialled a number of audio formats in various bitrates. MP3 turned out
to be most reliable and we deliver mp3 to various distribution services.
I set up an AAC+ system because it could give me a low profile backhaul

OT: systemd Poll - So Long, and Thanks for All the fish.
...iting poor documentation but I can't fault
the documentation; there's plenty of it and the man pages are quite well
structured - man -k --names-only systemd
Also, there's a lot of people moving to FreeBSD - but it appears that
the grass isn't greener there either as they are now trialling OpenRC.
One issue I resolved quickly after installing CentOS 7 was to revert to
ethx for interface names and to install iptables and remove firewalld.
The other occassional issue I have is where restarting services takes a
seriously long time and I've discovered that restarting

poLCA
Hi,
I am running some latent class models with civariates using poLCA in R, and
have a question the meaning of some error messages.
My model has 8 y-variables (dichotomous) and 2 x-variables (also dichotomous),
and I am trialling different numbers of classes.
When I run a 2-class model, the model runs fine without any error messages. I
used the nrep = 10 option to avoid local maxima. Class % are ~81% and 19%.
When I trial a 3-class model, firstly I upped the nrep to 200, since for some
runs it isn't till run 139...

Asterisk RTP Questions
Hi All,
I have some questions regarding RTP and Asterisk;
I am trialling a new SIP upstream provider. We connect to them over
the Internet at present which I know is not ideal, but we are just
testing at present. During the trials we have had an issue where we
have had one way audio between us and the provider after the call was
successfully set up and bidirectional...

conference and wifi phones
Hi guys,
I'm looking for a affordable conference phone and a wifi phone that has a cradle.
Polycom seems to make pretty nice conf phones but the price is a bit crazy for us. I saw the recommendation with ATA plus an analog Polycom phone but I do prefer a SIP phone. All because it's just too difficult to pull a phone cable into the current conference room. Is there any cheaper SIP

ACLS without winbind (but WITH correct user mapping)
Thanks to some of the guys on #samba-technical (obnox in particular!), I
now have a working samba configuration.
The environment:
In our setup each user has an entry in both openldap (no samba schemes)
and AD. Each account has the same name and even has a Unix UID entry in
AD. Our users ssh into Linux boxes, authenticating off of openldap.
Files are shared via samba.

VoIP over Alvarion Wireless
Hi,
This question isn't specifically asterisk related, but perhaps someone here
can shed some light or offer some insight.
Is anyone else here running VoIP over Alvarion wireless? If yes, do you
have any suggestions for what you've done to make it "work"? It seems that
no amount of traffic shaping, checking installs for error rates, lowering
error rates, or setting

package file permissions problem R 3.0.0/Windows OS
Dear list members,
I'm experiencing a file permissions problem with a package built under
Windows with R 3.0.0. I've encountered the problem on two Windows computers,
one running Windows 7 and the other Windows 8, and both when I build the
package under RStudio or directly in a Windows console via "R CMD build".
In particular, the cleanup file for the package, which as I

Minimum budget question ...
I've tried to figure out from the web site the minimum hardware cost to run a
small office Asterix solution but I'm afraid I miss something:
Let's say that I want to connect four/five analogic extension to the PBX.
I have:
- 1 computer as the server (with linux and Asterisk on it)
- 1 dummy patch panel to connect all the analogic phones around the office
What (and how many) cards
