Xen is affected by the trademark desease
Hi folks XenSource published a trademark policy[1]. I don't think we will be able to follow it if we want to support installation of different versions at the same time. Bastian [1]: http://www.xensource.com/company/legal.html -- There are some things worth dying for. -- Kirk, "Errand of Mercy", stardate 3201.7 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was

Bug#391935: Xen trademark might be problematic
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.0-unstable-1-amd64 Version: 3.0-unstable+hg11561-1 Severity: serious It seems Xen has a similar trademark policy as the much discussed Mozilla one. Specifically http://www.xensource.com/xen-tm-faq.html says: | 16. If I distribute a changed version of the Xen? hypervisor, may I | say that the changed product is the Xen hypervisor? | | No. If you have changed an

The SSH trademark issue part #1
...that the trademark will hold in court. Luckely I'm not a laywer, so I could be wrong. > I started receiving a significant amount of e-mail where people are > confising OpenSSH as either my product or my company's product, or are > confusing the meaning of the SSH and Secure Shell trademarks Well, since most people don't read documentation, I'm not suprised. I once wrong a MySQL mapper class for sendmail, and I get mail asking thing about either sendmail, or thing that look alike the mapper class I wrote. I usually answer the question when I can, or point them at the apropria...

Info related to the use of trademarks in documentation
There was an interesting note in a recent fedoraproject.org newsletter regarding Redhat's legal views on referring to others' trademarks. Since the comments are lengthy, they are not reproduced here and are available at the links below. Special characters in ERB
I''m pulling text out of a database that contains special characters, like the trademark sign. For example, a typical string might be like this: string_from_database => "Some Special Brand\231 is for sale this Thursday through Friday." The \231 is the trademark sign (TM). ERB converts this to question marks. So, my question is -- how can I get it to display the trademark

SSH trademarks and the OpenSSH product name
...re I would reach the OpenSSH developers, so I will post this here. As you know, I have been using the SSH trademark as the brand name of my SSH (Secure Shell) secure remote login product and related technology ever since I released the first version in July 1995. I have explicitly claimed them as trademarks at least from early 1996. In December 1995, I started SSH Communications Security Corp to support and further develop the SSH (Secure Shell) secure remote login products and to develop other network security solutions (especially in the IPSEC and PKI areas). SSH Communications Security Corp is no...

RE: pronunciation? -- loving CentOS doesn't mean you have to bash Red Hat
> Ubuntu and Knoppix can say they use Debian sources ... SLAX can say it > uses Slackware sources. Those guys have trademarks too. Debian and Slackware don't sell "enterprise" products. And many such projects are non-profit or otherwise. Unless Debian plans to establish itself as a commercial player, they don't need to defend their trademark. In fact, the commercial entity behind Debian is not named D...

More on TTSSH and the SSH trademark
I would also like to mention that when I released TTSSH in May 1998, I had no concerns about violating any trademarks because I observed that the name "SSH" was already being used by several different parties for different purposes --- as the name of Ylonen's original SSH package and its derivatives, as the name of the protocol, and as a component of names of other implementations and proposed implem...

It also states that you can't use GPL source with someone non-GPL that requires it to function. Trademarks do not. The software functions the same regardless whether or not you have the trademark. > No one is obligated to provide them, but they cannot prohibit copying > or redistribution as long as the requirement to include or offer source is > met. SSH and trademarks
Dear SSH community, It has been brought to my attention that is has been disputed whether the term "SSH" can be used freely as a term to describe implementations compatible with the "SSH" protocols, due to trademark issues. In particular, the owner of the "SSH" trademark argues that implementations compatible with the "SSH" protocols shall no longer be

Question about trademarks
...9;m emailing this to you guys I'm thinking of creating a project based on JBoss EAP the same way CentOS does with RHEL. Obviously I can't call it JBoss EAP so I thought I could call it CentAP, for Community Enterprise Application Platform. Will this infringe on the Red Hat and/or CentOS trademarks? -- Pouar

Regarding using CentOS on Commercial Appliance
Thanks for the reply. I had already visited the links mentioned by you. The link? https://www.centos.org/legal/trademarks/ talks about non-usage of trademarks in commercial software which is taken care. The link https://www.centos.org/legal/ talks very less about legal terms and condition. Is there some other link which mentions about the License model used by CentOS. Infact, no where it is mentioned that it follows G...

Trademark registration
Hi, sorry if this is considered off-topic, however I suspect that this list is full of people developing their own web apps who would appreciate this kind of information, so: I was wondering whether anybody would be willing to share his/her experience with trademarking a web app''s name(/logo) in the US. What are the alternatives, and what is the best/most affordable way to do it?

Registered / trademark signs
Colleagues, What is the easiest means to embed a: ? (registered) or ? (trademark) sign in text in a graphic. I would like to use mtext and avoid plotmath, if possible. Ideally, the sign should be superscripted but I can easily sacrifice that. Optimally, I need a solution that works in both OS X and Windows (? XP) and with R versions ? 2.11 Thanks in advance.
