CentOS4 desktop has stopped recognizing removable media - haldaemon problem?
USB sticks and cameras used to pop right up on my desktop. Now they
don't. I've checked the Gnome "Drives and Media Preferences" and
nothing has changed -- I have "Mount removable media when inserted"
etc. (Tried toggling it off and back on, no effect.)
I've logged out and back in, even rebooted. /var/log/messages shows
the devices are being recognized by udev:

Power-outage
I have a CentOS-5.6 remote server in a house in Italy,
where there are occasional thunder-storms.
There was one yesterday, when the electricity
went off 3 times, for a second or so on each occasion.
My server, an HP MicroServer,
came back (re-booted) on 2 of the 3 occasions,
but not on the third.
I assume that the problem arises because the machine
does not close down properly.

Mac OS and interpretation of @ in a username. Ex user@mds.xyz doesn't work on Mac OS but does on Win 10
Am I missing something? I don?t see where you are using the ?@? symbol anywhere.
Mac is probably interpreting the parameters ?valid users? and ?write list" (correctly, I think ;-) as a LIST of 3 users: joe, at, mds.xyz or bob, at, mds.xyz.

On Loop Distribution pass
Dear community,
Our team at IITH have been experimenting with loop-distribution pass in
LLVM. We see the following results on few benchmarks.
clang -O3 -mllvm -enable-loop-distribute -Rpass=loop-distribute file.c
clang -O3 -mllvm -enable-loop-distribute -Rpass-analysis=loop-distribute

Clients send tons of Notiftication requests
I have been trying to help Luca on the QNAP forum since I have the same NAS. It reports smbd version 4.7.12. I have not had any issues, but I am in a Mac/Linux environment only.
In Luca?s case, he is using NFS (not sure what version) on his Mac and I initially thought that maybe it was initiating change notifications somehow. Possible?

Thanks for the suggestion though.
I've now been trying out the various Apple specific flags in vfs_fruit (

with no success thus far.
Example settings tried in smb.conf:

connect Mac OS X 10.5.8 to Samba 4.9
On your Samba server, check build options: #: smbd -b - look for vfs_catia, vfs_fruit, vfs_streams_xattr modules.
If you have the vfs_ modules, then take a look at this:

What is "conn log" in smb.conf??
I can not find it in manual of smb.conf
(note, i used 4.12 its manual)
I suggest, cleanup your config first.
It might help.
@Rowland, you know what "conn log" is?
Or someone else..

vfs fruit disk_free fails on tmsize overflow with macOS Time Machine
Thanks torch ? I tried those suggestions but nothing changed.
I did however manage to find an existing bug which matches my symptoms: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13622
Fortunately it mentions a fix, but that was never implemented, so I created a new branch from v4-11-test on the gitlab shadow copy and tried the fix there. After compiling, my tests on Raspbian show that this does

Replacing the for loop for time series buid-up
Hi,
is there a function that replaces the following code?
n=200
boot.x[1]=odhad+boot.res[1] #(boot.x[0]=1)
for (j in 1:(n-1)) {
boot.x[j+1]=odhad*boot.x[j]+boot.res[j+1]
}
This is nested in two other loops, and I am looking for some way to improve
code performance
I tried sapply and cumprod but no success.
Thanks

vfs objects
Is the ?important" vfs objects parameter documented in a man page anywhere? It appears in the man pages of several vfs modules, but never fully documented that I could find. Apparently it once was from a now dead link https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/smb.conf.5.html#VFSOBJECTS <https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/smb.conf.5.html#VFSOBJECTS> .

Mongrel using way more memory on production than staging. Any ideas why?
I''ve been trying to track down the culprit of erratic behaviour and
crashes on my production server (which is split into a number of Xen
instances), so set up a staging server so that I could really try to get
to the bottom of it.
The staging server (also split with Xen) is set up pretty much
identically as far as the mongrel_cluster server is concerned (the
production box has two
