iRiver iGP-100 Review on Tomshardware.com
http://www.tomshardware.com/consumer/20040428/index.html
The iRiver iGP-100 was just reviewed at Toms Hardware. They
specifically mention that it supports Vorbis. Just thought I'd pass
this along.

Rendering farm?
I received at least one email suggesting a Windows-based rendering
farm - likely to consist of a few rack systems all running 64-bit
Windows. I read an article on Tomshardware which gave some decent
insight. What can list participants offer on this concept?
I don't care _how_ the resource is implemented - virtual machine,
cluster, etc. I just want to get the most resources for the money,
and permit the users to get the results they need, when and how they
need it...

Netcell RAID cards

Slightly OT: FakeRaid or Software Raid
I have had great luck with nvidia fakeraid on RAID1, but I see there are
preferences for software raid. I have very little hands on with full
Linux software RAID and that was about 14 years ago.
I am trying to determine which to use on a rebuild in a "standard"
CentOS/Xen enviroment.
It seems to me that while FakeRaid is/can be completely taken care of in
dom0 dmraid whereas with

Stand alone media player supporting Ogg ?
1. Anyone know of an Ogg playing media player, similar to the Netgear MP101
or the Voyetra AudioTron-100 (neither of which play ogg) ?
I need something that will display and play/stream ogg audio files stored on
the PC, without having to use a tv as the viewer. I looked on the wiki but
didn't find anything. If they don't use a tv they don't play ogg, so far
anyway.

OT: PCI Slot Adapter for 2.5" HDD?
...However, I have two PCI-E slots in the back that are unpopulated and two free SATA ports on the motherboard. I'd really like to find PCI slot bracket for mounting a 2.5" laptop HDD or something similar.
Something like this would work if it was PCI-E and was readily available: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/a-hard-disk-a-pci-slot,1061-3.html
I also found a bracket system but its not exactly what I need... http://www.sunbeamtech.com/PRODUCTS/WHEREVER%20PCI%20RACK.HTML

OT: Home NAS device
I am looking for something that I can hack away like a NSLU2 but that thing only has one disc
and worst of all its 100m interface. Anyone know of a device you can load Linux on that has
maybe 2 discs like a NAS200 with a gig nic? I need a quiet device to act as a tftp-dhcp/web/dns
system.
I thought of just building one from a new Soekris board, or even a mini itx but hope there was

Windows 7 clients not joining domain with Samba PDC
...in.
New Windows 7 desktop trying to join a domain happily service XP clients
from Samba 3.5.10 on Centos 6.3.
I've applied the registry fix from
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7#Windows_7_Registry_settings
and rebooted, no joy.
I've tried nikonz' changes from
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/75-63-windows-samba-issue with no joy.
Each time I try to have the machine join the domain, I get the following
in the machine specific error log:

Highpoint Rocketraid 2240
Has anyone on the list used one of these w/Linux? We currently use
Linux + Cinelerra for editing uncompressed video (and a few dual G5 macs
running Final Cut Pro). Current editing stations are getting a bit long
in the tooth so I've been mulling over a mass upgrade. 8-)
These cards are interesting to me because they are PCI-X and support 4
SATAII drives per multilane/infiniband

SV: SV: delaying "answer" for a number of ringsor anamount of time
>From what I understand it means that the *hardware* in your computer *acknowledges* the call as soon as it is recieved and then sends it to asterisk dialplan for processing.
You would essentially need to put the delay before the call ever reaches asterisk. So this problem isn't asterisk related... if I've understood your question and the answer I found correctly.

SAS/short stroking vs. SSDs for ZIL
Hi,
as I have learned from the discussion about which SSD to use as ZIL
drives, I stumbled across this article, that discusses short stroking
for increasing IOPs on SAS and SATA drives:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/short-stroking-hdd,2157.html
Now, I am wondering if using a mirror of such 15k SAS drives would be a
good-enough fit for a ZIL on a zpool that is mainly used for file
services via AFP and SMB.
I''d particulary like to know, if someone has already used such a
solution and how...

Current best AMD processor for running mainstream games?
Hi all,
I want to buy a processor that will be good for gaming in Wine in FreeBSD. I see that many game engines are starting to take advantage of multi-core systems, however it appears that multi-threaded applications are not distributed properly across multiple cores (Ex: Starcraft II - http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20882 ). So I'm not sure if I should aim

How to select a motherboard
Not being familiar with chip sets and other factors that "hardware
experts" understand, I am perplexed with the multitude of available
motherboards. Is there a Web site that can be of help or a "strategy"?
My goal is to replace my motherboard with one that is Centos compatible
and uses a Pentium 4 in the 2 MHz range. As example, when I go to
Mwave, I am presented with
