Kernel panic is occured when multi VMs is booting togeter
This error is not 100% reproducible. However, kernel panic has been occurred many times for last two months. It usually happens when multi VMs (in our case, 14 VMs) are booting together. After we made three big changes to gain more availibility, it began to happen. Changes are : 1. Use *NAS* as vm storage for migration from local disk 2. Use *two bondings* for switch HA (with 4 nics) from

config file line length limit
To all, i think i've found a minor bug in openssh. i'm writing to the list toget input on whether it's really a bug, or an undocumented limit, or maybe it's even documented somewhere (although i didn't see it documented in ssh_config(5)). if there is a consensus that this is indeed a bug, i'll file it in bugzilla. i would also like to submit the fix. the bug is that

no sound
Hello, I was playing the German version of StarCraft under Debian sid with wine 20050524 without Windows. I had "HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation" in [dsound] section of ~/.wine/config. I had the following problem: after playing for a while without problems (sound was ok), wine said "fixme:wave:OSS_AddRingMessage two fast messages in the queue!!!! toget =

Winbind, cached logons and 'user persistency'...
...offline' system that can answer to the first question but not to the second... also because if user are not known to the underlying system, there's no credential to check. 'nscd' do NSS offline cache, but if i remember well all samba expert here suggest not to use winbind and nscd togeter( https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Member_Server_Troubleshooting «You should also ensure that nscd is not installed, it will interfere with winbind.») There's a more general approach, really offline (nssl_updatedb, https://www.padl.com/OSS/nss_updatedb.html) but seems overkilled here....

Sorting data for multiple regressions
So I am trying to perform a robust regression (fastmcd in the robust package) on a dataset and I want to perform individual regressions based on the groups within the data. We have over 300 sites and we want to perform a regression based on the day of week and the hour for every site. I was wondering if anyone knows of a "'by' command similar to the one used in SAS that

Passing a password to smbpasswd in a script
Hi there, I'm a newbie to shell scripting and trying to hack togeter a script to facilitate the creation of unix users as well as samba users. I'm using tdbsam so the -w switch on smbpasswd doesn't seem to work nor apply. Using " echo $PASSWORD | pw useradd -n $USERNAME -h 0 ", I can setup a user and their password in one line. Pw useradd -h 0 o...

Dear useR's, I have a problem to read data (daily precipitation). The data are formated in months by columns wich leads to empty items in months with less then 31 days. What i did was reading the file and try to reshape the object a<- read.table("nds.txt", header=TRUE, sep=";", dec = ".", na.string="NA") ar<-reshape(a,

beamer overlays with Sweave?
This may be asking too much, but I'm wondering if anyone has a solution (even a hack) for creating multiple (overlay) plots in an Sweave file and post-processing the overlays in beamer appropriately. For example, suppose I have a series of figure blocks in my .Rnw file: <<plot1,fig=TRUE>>= [stuff] @ <<plot2,fig=TRUE>>= [stuff] @ <<plot3,fig=TRUE>>=

Write-up on RoR + XUL Sample
Hi Folks, Just a quick message saying that, after much demand, I wrote a quick write-up for the RoR + XUL thing I did yesterday: http://www.zedshaw.com/blog/programming/ruby_xul.html It lays out the few simple things I did, has a bit of rant on an unrelated topic, and other stuff but it''s short still. On a related note, I''d like to thank "xal" on IRC for reminding
