rarefaction variance
Here's a question for ecologists on the r-help list-- I'm addressing this
to ecologists in particular because they're most likely to be familiar
with the equation in question but I'll be happy to discuss the problem
with anyone who's willing to take a whack at it.
I'm trying to write a function to calculate the large sample variance of

Port Forwarding Trouble with Mandrake MNF
Please excuse my ignorance as I''m a linux newbie.
Basically I have a setup of an adsl ethernet modem (nated and then
everything forwarded to the external ip of my Mandrake mnf firewall)
connected to the mnf firewall which then connects to the lan.
internet <--> adsl modem <--> mnf firewall <--> lan
There''s only 2 nics in the mnf firewall so it''s a

...iguration could be found for either interface. Only got them running
again by deleting and re-adding them.
2) The MAC address of eth0 appeared to change (appears to be a shift
right with big/little endian rotation). May be related to problem 1)
since the configurations are tied to the MAC.
b) On Tipper:
1) The contents of my ~/.ssh directory were inexplicably moved to
~/.ssh/.ssh. Needless to say, ssh didn''t work well.
The ipsec tunnel between the systems failed to work after upgrading
''ursa''. A subsequent upgrade of ''tipper'' didn''t help. M...

Poor ipsec performance with policy match
Hello !
I have a performance issue with Kernel 2.6.X and policy match support as
suggested in http://shorewall.net/IPSEC-2.6.html. My IPSEC performance
doesn''t exeed about 30kbyte/sec even if my downlink is 1024kbit/sec and
should reach more than 100kbyte/sec.
No, its not the cpu''s performance (AMD Barton 2500+) and no it''s not the
gateway (CELERON 600 Mhz) on the

I am trying to connect two workstations (CentOS 3&4) directly using a

ends. Both hosts have gigabit-capable ethernet card. According to
lspci host 1 has:

and host 2 has:

One Remaining Issue Regarding 2.4.0
I believe that 2.4.0 is about ready to be sent out the door. I''ve made a
couple of small changes since RC2 but I don''t believe that they warrant
another RC.
There remains the issue of what to do about support for Shorewall 2.0 given
that 2.2 has only been available since March.
It would be my recommendation to make 2.4 the new "stable" release but

Hi there,
For years I've been using the ext3 file system without to think that it can ever gets broken so bad.
This was until last week when a box that I have running Linux from a SanDisk CF went down.
Since then I am struggling with this CF trying to understand what is happening.
The CF is SanDisk ultra II 1GB.
On this I have 4 partitions all of them with ext3:

Can this be done?
I currently have a 7x1.5tb raidz1.
I want to add "phase 2" which is another 7x1.5tb raidz1
Can I add the second phase to the first phase and basically have two
raid5''s striped (in raid terms?)
Yes, I probably should upgrade the zpool format too. Currently running
snv_104. Also should upgrade to 110.
If that is possible, would anyone happen to have the simple command
