tinc on macosx
Hi,
I have macosx 10.5.8 and Tunnelblick (openvpn) installed before.
I have installed tinc using port and got version 1.0.11 (Jun 29 2010
15:10:51)
now I have 2 problems:
1) the interface variable from the tinc.conf is not used, instead I have a
tun0 interface (or tap0).
2) the tinc-up script seems to be fired too early as I get an
error: ifconfig: interface /dev/tap0 does not exist
when I run

OpenBSD 3.2 and Release 1
I got the file that was sent to me the other day.
Unfortunitly it did not solve
my problems.
After a lot of hacking I have been able to get release
1.0 to almost compile. I
have finally gotten all of the dependancies worked out
under OpenBSD 3.2.
This next error has me stumped. I can tell that it is
looking for a file but
have no idea how to create the file. This is the

Why host-up script triggered even not ConnectTo?
Oh, thanks, in my current case, I haven’t config “Address” parameter in A’s host config, is this will make A prohibited it listen on the tinc ports?
Question:
1. if I config “Address” in A’s config, and even though A is in a private subnet, it might still possible for A to establish connection with X(X is public IP address)?
2. If there any parameter to disable the direct connection discovery,

actually at the moment the setup is like this , it has the same ip address
, both lan and tinc , but iax doesn't work at all , moreover , i want to be
able to make an IAX trunk to the rest of the machines from different
networks together .
what happens is that , asterisk says that the request is sent , but nothing
will be received .
if you want i can try to make a tcpdump tomorrow , and send

Problem with tinc.log and logrotate.
Hi everyone again.
I run tinc with the following command:
/usr/sbin/tincd -d1 --logfile=/var/log/tinc.log
That creates the file "/var/log/tinc.log" correctly and reports into it.
Well, because I want to have a log file by day, I have created a logrotate
file (/etc/logrotate.d/tinc) that contains the following lines:
-----------------------------------------
/var/log/tinc.log {

Hmmm ... I can't prove that using the CVS code I checked out this morning.
Everything works like yesterday: I can ping the peer but I canot go beyond:

HA firewall with tinc
I have 2 firewall in HA with keepalived. Can I use active the same tinc configuration on 2 firewalls ? using tun Interface with same ip on all 2 nodes is a problem ? tun device advertise itself on the network having an IP/MAC pairs (ARP) or the IP is only used by the system internally for routing so using the same configuration is right ? so one firewall be active, the other is passive. Win32: problem with tinc-up script
Okey, this is new and better version.
Now we handle wait up to hardcoded (for now) value.
After wait (IP stack reconf or timeout) we launch 'tinc-up' script.
To handle initial TAP device traffic, script is now launched
in separate thread.
This version works 100% for me under Win2003.

Why host-up script triggered even not ConnectTo?
H, Narcissus
Quick one for the below case, if node A have a direct connection to node B, and node B have a connection to node X, then I found node A will be able to talk to node X, but the communication path is go through node B, instead of build direct connection between A and X, is that right? I tested this in my environment.

site-site vpn setup..
So, for remote manageability of Tinc, we don't have any SNMP or REST like
programmatic ways?
If it is going to be CLI only, it is definitely not secure to manage and
also not very convenient to manage programmatically.

Tinc and OpenWRT
Hey Saverio,
I'd really like the idea of a tinc-1.1-pre package for OpenWRT. I'm
currently using tinc-1.1 with an Ed25519-only network, really like the
new features and CLI and want to add some OpenWRT routers into the mix.
How do you plan to handle things with OpenSSL?
tinc-1.1 from git should be able to compile without it (but will then
only support the built-in algorithms). Depending

How to set Subnet in a node which act as both server and client role?
Hi, Tinc experts
Diagram as below, A is trying to access host X behind C:
A >> B >> C — “host X"
B is the tinc server for A, but also B is the tinc client to connect to C.
My question is, if I only use one VPN (/etc/tinc/myvpn), then the host configuration for B will be tricky.
As the tinc server to A, B’s host config (/etc/tinc/myvpn/hosts/B) needs have the Subnet = X/32,

Ok. I think I'll start with the 1.0 series packages that are already
out there and get them working.

Thanks for replying so quickly Guus.
I will try increasing the re-keying time to 86400, and am now running
the servers in debug 5 mode logging to a file, so will get all output.
Its interesting what you say about UDP being given lower priority, the
two end points of this VPN are actually within the same data center, but
are being routed within the DC's core routers (because its going

SIMPLE TINC template example
Here is some examples of using templates for TINC configurations and
settings:
In your startup script, BEFORE starting TINC VPN, put a number of
entries to configure your VPN:

10.98.0.11 ConnectTo=LOSI102 ConnectTo= ConnectTo=
