Timeliness of precompiled binaries--R-2.2.1 still not available as RPM
R-2.2.1 is still not available for Redhat Linux as an RPM on CRAN. It is available as an SRPM. Can someone fill me in on why it takes so long to make RPMs available? I would be happy to help make the RPMs for el4 and el3 if such help is needed. Regards, Scott Waichler Pacific Northwest National Laboratory scott.waichler _at_ pnl.gov

Helping out?
Wow, three threads in two days, I promise to be less loquacious from now on. Anyways, I've decided to run CentOS over Whitebox on my firewall because of the timeliness of updates. Is there some way I can assist in the CentOS effort? It would be nice if there were a "wanted" section on y'all's web site detailing ways to assist with CentOS, if any. --Shawn -- -- Shawn M. Door not hitting me on my way out
Sorry, folks. I wish our release developers well, and hope that they can open up their processes to allow much needed community involvment. But I've hopped to Scientific Linux and find it much more usable due to their willingness to publish updates even without the entire new release bundled, and the much timelier updates from the upstream vendor. php53 and bind97 are directly available for

...fer to it when the inevitable ping is necessary. - I have to wade through tons and tons of commit e-mails searching for a response to my patch (for some reason the mailing list software often breaks threading). This is a more general problem with the current review process, not strictly a timeliness issue. - I have to send a ping e-mail. - Now I have to look for responses to *two* e-mails. In short, e-mail is a very poor vehicle for managing this kind of process. I hope that the patch queue in testing helps alleviate the poor response time problem. Even just an acknowlegement, "hey I...

Ruby on Rails: Up and Running: Rough Cuts Version
Anyone read the rough cuts of this book? I''m interested in checking it out because Bruce Tate''s work is always great. How does it compare to the agile books (2nd edition) in terms of timeliness, difficulty, etc. Thanks! Nathan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Impact of cipher and authentication to performance
...server would be transmitted to each of the connected remote users. Would the added overhead of encryption and authentication be substantial that if there is no such need for security, it could be removed from the host configuration file. Is there any additional ways to improve the performance and timeliness of the delivery of the multicast packets in tinc? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I have never heard of this even remotely being a problem in any way, at all, ever. > - I have to send a ping e-mail. Once again, this takes like what, 10 seconds? I find it highly unlikely that 10 seconds is a non-negligible amount of time com...

A few questions for the braintrust
I have a few questions to throw out to the collective braintrust. 1. in core/fs/pxe/tftp.c, when communicating using udp, in connecting, transmitting and receiving functions, errors are not communicated to the user. In fact the comment after transmit specifies "/* If the WRITE call fails, we let the timeout take care of it... */" The question is: Should we notify the user that there

Registration now open for Silicon Valley Ruby Conference
...one! Is it only for Silicon Valley people? No. It''s got some regional Ruby community emphasis -- but Ruby Central was asked to get involved specifically to broaden the event base and help fulfill the planners'' goal of making the conference of interest and timeliness to Rubyists overall. Is it a Ruby conference, or a Rails conference? It''s all things to all people! :-) In fact, it''s a Ruby conference with a number of Rails talks (want to hear core Rails developer Marcel Molina presenting on Rails 1.1?) and Rails develo...

Re: CentOS and SL, together? -- attributing statements to me (that I didn't make)
From: Dag Wieers > Bryan, stop generalising and dramatising. What dramatising? At some point, several people decide that anything they dislike was said by me. Several other people said far more negative comments about CIPE than myself. Those comments have now been attributed to me. I purposely avoided making it about whether or not CIPE should or shouldn't not be included, just why it

a couple of ideas/proposals
Byron Ellis has been making some progress on a hdf5 library for microarray data (and any other thing you want to put in there). In doing so some issues have arisen that are of more general interest. 1) hdf5 supports annotation (through comments) so it would be nice if the comment function in R became generic. I think this is backward compatible and basically not really an issue of any
