Replacing NT4 PDC with Samba 2.2.2
Hi Haven't seen any responses to my earlier post (Transferring PDC duties to Samba) so here's a slightly different approach I'm trying which someone can hopefully shed some light on. Is it possible to transfer domain-specific data from an NT4 PDC to a Samba 2.2.2 server, switch off the NT4 machine, set up smb.conf, switch on the Samba box such that the attached NT4/Win2000

Please Help. Samba as PDC and printing
Hi ! I hate to do this but I'm close to get crazy about printing with samba. I have a samba server ver 2.2.5 running as a domain controler. The domain logon works fine, I've created the computer account by hand for testing and it is great. The problem is with printing. I've created the [print$] share all the directories in this share like W32ALPHA, W32MIPS, W32PPS, W32X86,

Adobe Photoshop uses wrong permissions when saving
That doesn't help my version of the problem, though. My create mask is 701, but Photoshop is creating files with permissions 777. -----Original Message----- From: Tim Allen [mailto:timallen@ls82.fsnet.co.uk] Sent: Friday, December 07, 2001 7:28 AM To: samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Re: Adobe Photoshop uses wrong permissions when saving What is force create mode set to? It defaults to 0, but setting it to another value should ensure that the bits you want set actually end up that way...

NE00: printer files left behind on Samba shares
Hi We've noticed that we get zero length files left behind on Samba shares after printing to a Samba printer, of the form NExx: (appears as NExx~yy) from Windows due to name mangling. This only occurs in specific circumstances: Client running NT4 (SP6a) and Printing file on a Samba share and Printing to a Samba printer and Running particular applications (e.g. Word and Acrobat, but not

File Permissions
I have set up Samba so that all users on my small network can read from my one of my Linux shares as well as write to that share. However, when user A saves a file to that share, user B can't open it -- and vice versa. How can I set up samba so that all files written to that share can be read, modified, and deleted by all users? Thanks in advance for an answer to this question.

Transferring PDC duties to Samba
Hi I have a Samba 2.2.2 server running under RH7.1 in a small network with an NT4 PDC and a few NT4/Win2000 workstations. I'd like to pension off the NT4 server and configure the Samba box as a PDC. I've been working through the latest PDC howto and have managed to remove a test workstation from the NT4 domain and join the Samba domain. Given that we're using only local user

Interleaved writes fwom W2K and NT4
Hi Jerry I'm still able to recreate failures in with 2.2.4 when interleaving file creation/writing from W2k and NT4 machines to a Samba server. I orginally reported this in 2.2.2a, also 2.2.3: http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2001-December/063396.html http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-January/063483.html http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-February/067221.html I sent

Slow transfers under W2K, OK under NT4
Hi Samba 2.2.5, Linux 2.4.9. We're running a small network of half-a-dozen W2K and NT4 clients. We have an NT4 server and have just migrated all our file serving to our Samba server. It's immediately obvious that our W2K clients are now running much slower when accessing files on the Samba server. The NT4 machines are fine. On a W2K/NT4 dual-boot machine, W2K runs ten times slower - no

Three reasons for staying with Microsoft PDC's
There appear to be significant hurdles to migrating from a Microsoft to Samba PDC environment, something which I've been trying to do now for many months. The difficulties arise in moving user's accounts over to Samba 1. Local profiles. It does not seem to be possible to move from an NT4 PDC to a Samba PDC while retaining local profiles. NT4/W2k machines consider logons to the Samba PDC

PDC Migration to Samba
Hi I've been trying to finally switch off our NT4 PDC over the last few months and transfer PDC duties to our Samba file server. Although I have no difficulty in getting the Samba box to authenticate users as the PDC, I have never been able to migrate the user's settings over. As far as the clients (NT4 and W2K) are concerned, users effectively start with a "clean slate" i.e.
