[sorta offtopic] Removing bad bytes from filenames
...9;s a
whole 'nother can of worms.
I'm having trouble moving my complete collection over because dbPowerAmp
(an application I used to love) made some dumb decisions about naming my
files. For example, in track/album/artist names that contained a
question mark ("O Brother, Where Art Thou?") it would insert the octal
byte 0277; an upside-down question mark.
It was a curiosity in Windows, but it's a real headache now. I have a
LOT of files that I'm copying over, and I have a lot of these
poorly-named files to deal with.
I transfer the files across using a really bas...

clipping off words inside a vector of strings
Hi,
I have a vector of strings (class character) with 6 elements (length
6). I call it 'names'.
"Graham Chapman"
"John Cleese"
"Terry Gilliam"
"Eric Idle"
"Terry Jones"
"Michael Palin"
And I want to turn it into another vector of strings called
'shortnames' with the same length.
The new vector should look like:

Libcurl.so.3: wherefore art thou?
I am utterly stumped. I need libcurl.so.3 for CentOS 6.4.
I have Googled everything and I have been going all over the Internet
looking for a solution. I give up; I need help. The error message I
get when I try to run a program is:
error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.3: cannot open shared

I have:

surprising predicting capabilities
Hi,
I noticed the following fortune in R 2.7 and 2.6.2:
fortune('Spreads')

Just wondering, what function and library gave this detailed prediction?

[LLVMdev] Valid names for symbols
..., producing lines like:
%7 = call fastcc i32 @"_f_+"(i8* %6, i32 1)
Should I be mangling the names, or can I rely on LLVM to cope? If so,
will LLVM correctly mangle the names itself to keep the platform
assembler happy?

Oh inheritacne, wherefore art thou
Is there anyway to achieve inheritance of specifications?
Suppose I had an action like
def index
filter = params[:filter] ? params[:filter] : ''%''
order = params[:order] ? params[:order] : ''created_at DESC''
@posts = Post.find(:conditions => "title LIKE #{filter}", :order => order)
...
end
Now I might have half a dozen specs for this

HooDaHek 0.6 has been released.

Steven BerkHolz is a pretty sharp stick and said to me, "Why don't you

database on an incoming call?" Much head smacketh ensued, and as I made
that change for Steven, I noticed that I had the way wrong version of

RFC: slow-down option
Hello,
I've been using rsync on some backup servers for years. In 2011 we had a situation where the FS of the backup server was
behaving strange, even thou there was enough available I/O, the fs(ext4 on 16TB partition with a lot of inodes) was
lagging. After much testing we found that rsync was hammering the fs too hard.
At that point I patched rsync to add a stupid option which will sleep for a while before creating new file.
That helped us a lot t...

It seems that the NoNewPrivileges option messes with several things.
PAM authentication stopped working as well besides the fact that
CAP_AUDIT_WRITE is also missing in CapabilityBoundingSet.
I've opened a pull request https://github.com/dovecot/core/pull/71
Although I removed NoNewPrivileges altogether, since I didn't know what
to write in the comment.
The only thing I could think of was something along the lines:
# If you want most things to stop working, set this to true
I thought this would be rather counterproductive, thus I removed it.
