Note that if you use a third party app, it will not be supported here. http://wiki.winehq.org/ThirdPartyApplications 2. You don't have to have many wineprefixes, though there are advantages to doing so. You can create one wineprefix wherever you want (and even name it .wine if you so desire) and install all your apps to it. (Make sure the location is a native *nix filesystem such as ext2 or ext3.) Running Internet Explorer 6 (IE6), but nothing happens
Hi, I am currently running Ubuntu 8.04 with wine 1.0 (upgraded thru update manager). I previously installed wine & winetools using instructions from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=149585. However, when I try to run IE6, this is what the terminal outputs: kenninaz at kenninaz-desktop:~$ wine /home/kenninaz/.wine/c/Program\ Files/Internet\ Explorer/IEXPLORE.EXE

Where do I start?
All I want to do is play my favorite game, Akia Online, but I got a mac! So I'm trying out Wine but I don't understand why it's... manuel I guess. I already had the two programs required downloaded, then I downloaded the Wine program itself, and now I'm lost. What do I do? There's no 'easy button' to click and get things started... The only two 'how-to's I could

Is it possible to run explorer.exe under wine?
I'm intending to use wine on my Macbook Pro and am currently downloading the requisite materials, based on a tutorial on how to use wine for Mac. So I'm getting xcode and Macports package installer and from there I will install. Anyway, the tutorial also gives the basics of wine usage via terminal for executing windows files and while it's not particularly difficult it occurs to me

"running wineinstall as root" error - Mac OS X
I run Mac OS X 10.6.5. There are a bunch of Windows programs I would very much like to run, and my latest OS update broke my copy of CrossOver Games, so I decided to get Wine. None of the ten binary download packages on the download page said Mac anywhere on them, so I decided I would have to download the source code and run from the command line. I don't like this, since I'm not

Trying to get IE onto my MacBook
MacBook OS X 10.4.11 - Sorry, I'm pretty much one of the peasants when it comes to some of this; need to use Internet Explorer and Excel (required for work) on my MacBook; have been trying to learn how to do this -- short of keeping Mr. Gates wealthy; my understanding (correct?incorrect?) is that one way to manage this is to load Wine onto the Mac, and then I can load in the two MS programs.

Trying to load MIRC with Wine on a Mac
This is driving me crazy. I have wine downloaded on my MAC. It's in my application folder. I have MIRC downloaded and it's also in my Application folder. But, when I turn off MIRC, and turn it back on, the whole thing wants to reload. Very annoying since that means it's not saving settings. Any ideas?

Clean enviroments in Wine
I read somewhere that in order for a program to work properly in Wine it should be installed in a clean enviroment, something along the lines of one software conflicting with anothers drivers/runtime/apps/etc. Is this true? Does this mean that I can only have one program installed with Wine at a time? Can one not create several 'fresh enviroments'?
