Virgin Radio launches an Ogg stream
Apologies if this is a bit of a commercial post (I've not been lurking long), but you might like to know that the world's most listened-to online radio station has just launched an Ogg stream. (As of today!) http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html (or alternatively www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen from a non MSIE+PC browser). Any ideas you have to help promote this stream would be very much appreciated; we're a strong believer of Ogg here at Virgin Radio, and we'd like to push it as much as we can. Oh, and...

...And it sounds great too, but you wanted technical reasons... ! By the way, Virgin Radio UK's broadband streams are now proper stereo, instead of the suspicious mono-sounding version you had for the past few weeks - so if you want your non-technical reasons, do visit us. www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen from any non-MSIE browser. (Users with Mozilla on the PC - there's a test Ogg embedded player for you to play with.) -- James Cridland, Managing Editor, Virgin Radio New Media Virgin Radio, No. 1 Golden Square, London W1F 9DJ Tel: 020 7434 1215 Today's best music and classic tr...

Virgin Radio now on ices2 - yp not working though
...ransferred our Ogg Vorbis Icecast2 streams from darkice to the ices2 encoder. Apologies if you were trying to listen; I had to stop and start the streams a few times. They should be stable now as I'm off down the pub now! As a reminder, the URL for the streams is at http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html. Ices2 takes slightly different parameters to the darkice encoder, so I'd be grateful for any feedback on whether the streams sound better or worse. The main change I've made is that our lower bandwidth '32kbps' stream is now broadcasting in mono, which should so...

Virgin Radio Classic Rock now in Ogg too
...and the slightly commercial nature of this post. Virgin Radio Classic Rock, which is a sister station to Virgin Radio, is now also available in streaming Ogg Vorbis. We also have 'now playing' information working on both services. Links and more information at http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html The 96kbps Virgin Radio Classic Rock stream appears to sound better than the 96kbps Virgin Radio stream. We're looking into why; it will probably be something to do with the audio processing before it gets to the encoder. Thanks to all those who have helped us so far in get...

System Time
.... All of our bedrooms have Radio-Controlled Clocks. At 5:30 this morning, half of the clocks displayed the correct time. The other half of the clocks were incorrectly showing a time one hour ahead. Maybe this is one more piece of evidence to reject using an RCC time base for computers, at lease in thestate of Arizona.
