Block size optimization - let rsync find the optimal blocksize by itself.
...umentation project for school and I would like to
give some comment about rsync block size optimization first, and then to
submit a way to make rsync choose by itself the optimal blocksize when
updating a large number of files.
Well, the first comment: during my work, I wanted to verify that the
theorical optimal block size sqrt(24*n/Q) given by Andrew Tridgell in his
PHd Thesis was actually the good one, and when doing the tests on randomly
generated & modified files I discovered that the size sqrt(78*n/Q) is the
actual optimal block size, I tried to understand this by reading all the
thesis, t...

[Question] Multichannel load-balancing algorithm
...What are the arguments the algorithm compute to load-balance the
network traffic on the interfaces?
I already know that if a 10Gb/s interface and a 1Gb/s interfaces are
in the multichannel connection the 1Gb/s one will be ignored until the
10Gb/s goes down. But the available bandwith (and not the theorical
bandwith) could vary. This is why I want to know if the load-balancing
algorithm doesn't limit to just load-balance equally on the best
theorical interfaces?
Thank you,
Martin

A free space trouble in a ocfs2 partition
...ontado en
/dev/sda1 300G 238G 63G 80% /home/mail
This are the mount options of the partition:
mount
/dev/sda1 on /home/mail type ocfs2 (rw,_netdev,heartbeat=local)
The 300 GB ocfs2 partition is the mail storage of thousands of mail users.
The block size of the partition is 1K to theorically prevent fragmentation:
tunefs.ocfs2 -q -Q "BS=%5B\n" /dev/sda1
BS= 1024
There are so many free inodes:
df -i
S.ficheros Nodos-i NUsados NLibres NUso% Montado en
/dev/sda1 78642183 62356449 16285734 80% /home/mail
So, what is the problem with this partition?...

plotting in the same figure
Hello,
Do you know if it's possible to create a plot as in matlab with the
options hold on and hold off?
For example I want to plot in the same figure the theoric cdf of the
normal distribution and the empiric cdf from the raw data.
Thank you,
Josep.

Digium B410P and 8 ports connectivity
Hello,
Junghanns and BeroNet offer 8 BRI ports cards.
Do you know if Digium's B410P has an inner TDM bus so that an 8 BRI ports
subsystem (2 PCI slots used, but 1 one set of interrupts) could be made out
of 2 B410P ?
I know you could (theorically) do this with Junghanns and BeroNet cards.
Cheers

jdg-qos & DSL
hi all!
i have a dsl connection with 1280 kbps for downstream and 256 kbps for upstream, and i want to manage the bandwidth to give high priority to voip traffic and low priority to p2p traffic. i found the script jdg-qos. i readed on this forum (i have a dsl-g604t router with MCMCC firmware)

Structural TS and recursive estimation
Hello everyone,
Since my question is quite theorical, I am not sure whether it is the right
place to ask, but anyway...
I am working on time series and I looked at some way to fit my data through
arima models.
Since these data are updated frequently, I was looking at a way to update
the model "on line" (to get a kind of recursive estimation...

Selecting Best Model in an anova.
Hello,
I have a simple theorical question about regresion...
Let's suppose I have this:
Model 1:
Y = B0 + B1*X1 + B2*X2 + B3*X3
and
Model 2:
Y = B0 + B2*X2 + B3*X3
I.E.
Model1 = lm(Y~X1+X2+X3)
Model2 = lm(Y~X2+X3)
The Ajusted R-Square for Model1 is 0.9 and the Ajusted R-Square for Model2 is 0.99, among many other significan...

doubt about esfq
...tency
(because limit can then be lower as well).
I am just curious, 128 active flows would mean [in ESFQ] 128 different
IPs if i hash for ip dst ? or would it be 128 connections.
For example let`s say i download from my machine using some download
accelerator and put 128 parallel connections[ theorically of course :)
] , so would i be using all slots or just one ?

Bug report for package foreign anf functon write.foreign
...ite this message concerning the write.foreign() function from the foreign package and a bug that I discovered.
When we want to save our dataset as a .sas file, the limit of variable names character is 8 by default. In SAS this limit is 32 character and an argument in the function, validvarname, can theorically switch the default from 8 to 32 by selecting validvarname = "V7".
However, it did not work and show the error "Cannot uniquely abbreviate format names to conform to eight-character limit and not ending in a digit" that show the limit is still 8 characters.
By looking at the...

Dear Masters,
I have a question to submit
consider the following script
m<-4.95
obs<-rpois(36,m) # i generate 36 realization from a poisson(m)
hist(obs,freq=F)
curve(dpois(x,m),add=T,col="red") #i wish to overlay on the histogram the
theorical poisson density function
errors are returned saing the x vector doesn't contain integers....
really bizarre i can't give explanation (R version 2.11.1, no source codes)
would u be so kind to suggest me a solution???

It looks like you are trying to dial out on your 'NT' instead of your

Try changing Dial(DAHDI/g1/${EXTEN:1}); to Dial(DAHDI/G1/${EXTEN:1});
Oh, and I'd use mISDN for BRI as DAHDI always gave me problems.

Fwd: Samba as DC in a win2k network
Hi !
Sorry to bother you but as you're pretty close to what I would like to
do with samba, maybe you could help me to answer the above questions.
As I guess you're both in a hurry, I don't ask you long technical
explanations. Just theorical informations to get a good understanding
of what I am going to do.
Thanks a bundle in advance.

tune Samba NAS video server and Windows XP clients ?
Hello,
I need to tune Samba for maximum throughput.
Our NAS server is used for MPEG2 viteos storage. We stream and copy
files at the same time.
Network is a full gigabit : switch Linksys SRW2016 (jumbo frames
enabled) + category 5e wire
Does anyone has got an idea of which is the theorical throughtput of
Samba ?
Currently I have +o- 20Mbytes/Secs ...
On big files I can go up to 40Mbytes/Secs
With AppleShare+Netatalk I can got up to 60Mbytes/Secs
How can optimize Samba or my system or clients to boostup transfers ...
I've get my config from FreeNas. My samba is setup to act a...
