Problems with randomForest for regression
Dear list,
I am trying to do a benchmark study for my case study. It is a regression
problem. Among other models I use randomForest.
Using the following code the result is around 0.628, and this make sense
comparing with other methods. The Theil function implements Theil's U
statistic. I do not present the definition of some variables because it is not
important to understand my problem. I use sliding window trategy.
library("randomForest")
rf.theil <- vector()
learner='randomForest'
for (i in 1:6)

Theil decomposition
I came across the package 'ineq' that computes a variety of inequality measures (e.g. gini, theil etc). I want to compute the Theil index (racial segregation) and decompose the total into sub-components (by geog levels). I think the package doesn't report the decomposition (correct me if I'm wrong). Just wonder is that available elsewhere?

Theil test help
Hello,
I have a series of questions that I hope will be simple to answer. Basically I would like a code to do the following so that I can compute the distribution free test for the slope of a postulated regression line (Theil test). As I am testing the null hypothesis that slope = 0 against the general alternative the slope does not equal 0, it should be pretty straight-forward.
I have a data frame as follows;
index Score Mean_Temp SD_Mean_Temp
i 10 3.7 0.65
i+1 12 7.5 2.11
i+2 6 10.3 0.85
... ... ... ...

Theil Kendall line as fit?
I found some code to compute a Kendall-Theil slope estimate and want to add
it to a scatter plot. Is there a way to make it appear like a regression fit
instead of a line that extends from the edges of the plot? I would like to
have the OLS appear as a dotted line and the KT a solid line but as it is
the KT line is longer.

help speeding up simple Theil regression function
Hello,
I am working on a simple non-parametric (Theil) regression function and and
am following Hollander and Wolfe 1999 text. I would like some help making
my function faster. I have compared with pre-packaged version from "MBLM",
which isnt very fast either, but it appears mine is faster with N = 1000
(see results below). I plan on runn...

FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
...IED
As told, I'm not confident with the syntax. Have I made it wrong? Or
can you see anything else from the log that can pinpoint the problem?
I would believe that there must be several admins out there who use
the combination of of Samba and FreeBSD without having these problems.

Adjusted R-squared formula in lm()
...() for the Adjusted R-squared? How can I interpret it?
There seem to exist several formula's to calculate Adjusted R-squared.
Wherry’s formula [1-(1-R2)·(n-1)/(n-v)]
McNemar’s formula [1-(1-R2)·(n-1)/(n-v-1)]
Lord’s formula [1-(1-R2)(n+v-1)/(n-v-1)]
Stein 1-(n-1/n-k-1)(n-2)/n-k-2) (n+1/n)
Theil's formula (found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coefficient_of_determination)
According to the textbook Field, Discovering Statistics Using R (2012, p. 273) R uses Wherry's equation which "tells us how much variance in Y would be accounted for if the model had been derived from th...

Configuration of idmap_ldap "No backend defined"
...reeBSD 9.0-RELEASE and my LDAP server seems to
work otherwise. At least, I can do user authentication this way.
Of course, I can provide much more information from the logs and the
configuration files. I just don't know where to start. And any help would
be much appreciated.

FreeBSD: Changing UNIX passwords from Windows

FreeBSD.
I haven't been able to find much information on this issue between FreeBSD
and Samba, bur I'm sure there must be a solution. I don't know if the
solution is to use another password database (e.g. LDAP), but this seems to
be a rather complicated issue too.

Thiel's Uncertainty Coefficient
Dear sir Schwartz,
In response to a granted online request to receive R code in order to generate Theil's Uncertainty coefficient, I was hoping I could receive the same favor.

How do I hide [Homes] share?
I have setup a samba pdc for my domain and it's working fine. The users
also get a network share as I would like. But when I go to the network
neighborhood, I see both the users home directory but also a "Homes"
share. As far as I can see, the content is the same, but I don't like
that way to do it. Is there a way to only show the home directory?

Help with calculating entropy of data
Hello All,
My question is not directly related to R but rather on which statistical
method I should look in to for capturing the entropy of a data-set as a
number. In this figure http://www.twitpic.com/18sob5 are two data sets blue
and green (x-axis is time) that fluctuate between (-1,+1). Clearly, green
has 4 jumps while blue has 1 (and a some?). Intuitively, green has more
entropy than blue. Is

Magnitude of trend in time series
Hello,
I am analyzing some climate time series data using the Mann Kendall package
and was wondering if there was a way to calculate the trend using Sen's
nonparametric estimator slope in R?
Thank you in advance,
