Buffalo Terastation with 3.0.23d PDC and LDAP backend?
I have my system properly running as a PDC now, but I'm having trouble getting one of the machines here to join the domain. This system is a Buffalo Terastation Pro. For this system I have to create the machine trust account manually. The domain access fails as follows: [2007/03/06 17:51:44, 2] lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_open_connection(788) smbldap_open_connection: connection opened [2007/03/06 17:51:44, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_tcon_and_X(711) Servi...

Slow browsing
...ith 512MB ram and PIII 800mhz). I am running the latest Fedora Core 5 with the version of samba 3 that ships with that and am exposing a single share for my software raid (4x400gb PATA seagate drives, running from two siig ATA cards so each drive has its own channel) I also have a buffalo 1.0tb terastation network storage drive that runs samba configured as raid 5 , though I am not sure of the version of samba it is running, though I believe it is a 2.0 version My wife also has a G5 mac running the latest OSX version, setup to use samba but it is on a different workgroup. Everything is hook...

file_mode and dir_mode options ignored
Hi there. I'm using samba3x-3.5.4-0.83.el5_7.2 on CentOS release 5.7 x86_64 to mount a Terastation filesystem. The "file_mode" and "dir_mode" options to mount.cifs seem to be ignored; I systematically get a "drwxrwxrwx" permission, no matter what values I provide for these options: # mount.cifs //terastation/Backup /bkp/BackupPC/ -o credentials=/etc/samba/tera...

DC Upgrade from 4.1.7 to 4.6.7
...I have to add the following to fix the default values: client NTLMv2 auth = yes ntlm auth = No client ldap sasl wrapping = sign winbind use default domain = yes 2. samba 3.6.23 member server(rpm from CentOS 6.8) and samba 4.6.6 need this change: winbind use default domain = yes 3. My TeraStation NAS storage server lost connection to samba 4.6.6 AD, I have to move it to a Samba 4.6.6 member server, and get rid of the TeraStation NAS storage server, too much headache with TeraStation. Setting up a samba 4.6.6 member server is easier. and you can control everything on the member se...

Securely backing up Linux machines to NAS?
I have been tasked with having a Buffalo Terastation Pro 2 NAS box, likely to be connected to a Linux box via samba, be the storage device to back up mostly Ubuntu and Centos systems. ?The trick is, the machines to be backed up need to do so in an automated fashion and make a secure, encrypted connection to my Linux box hosting the NAS. The NAS...

Previous versions of samba or how to disable NTML2 authentication
If I run apt-get install samba, this only seems to retrieve the latest version of samba. How do I retrieve an earlier version of samba? Alternatively, how do I disable NTMLv2 on my Linux PC? The settings in the link below work for Windows 7 and I can access my Terastation again from Windows 7, but how do I do this on a Linux PC (Ubuntu 14.04)? http://digitalquery.com/blog/2006/09/vista_and_buffalo_terastation/ smbtree finds the Tersstation, but says "Incomplete multibyte sequence" and doesn't list any of the shares. smbtree works for...

Samba session setup STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I have two Linux 2.6 based devices that cannot talk properly to each other on a Samba session setup. (those two devices are Buffalo Terastation Pro II rackmount TS-RHTGL/R5 F/W 1.33 and Request Media Server F Series, v5.3.1.3478) Basically, the NAS provides with a share that Request application uses to store media content. The problem we experience is that the NAS yet refuses a SMB client, while anonymous sessions are enabled on NAS....

Reading a file being written to
Can you read from a file that is currently being written to in an Samba environment? I tried it on a Buffalo Terastation and a Windows NT File server and got the message "file in use" every time. Imagine recording a TV show from 8pm to 9pm onto an Samba server. If I come home at 8:15, can I start watching it immediately, or do I have to wait until 9:00?

ZFS for my home RAID? Or Linux Software RAID?
Hello All, I build a new Storage Server to backup my data, keep archives of client files, etc I recently had a near loss of important items. So I built a 16 SATA bay enclosure (16 hot swappable + 3 internal) enclosure, 2 x 3Ware 8 port RAID cards, 8gb RAM, dual AMD Opertron. I have a 1tb boot drive and I put in 8 x 1.5tb Seagate 7200 drives. In the future I want to fill the other 8 SATA bays

settings up cheap a NAS / SAN server, is it possible?
Hi all I want to look at setting up a simple / cheap SAN / NAS server using normal PIV motherboard, 2GB (or even more) RAM, Core 2 Duo CPU (probably a Intel 6700 / 6750 / 6800) & some SATA HDD's (4 or 6x 320GB - 750GB). My budget is limited, so I can't afford a pre-built NAS device. Can this be done with CentOS? I've been looking FreeNAS (which is built on FreeBSD), and it
