I want to blog!
This isn''t Rails or Ruby related, but I just need some advice and thought I''d ask the bright individuals here. I want to start my own blog but I''m not sure where to begin. I don''t want to get a blogger account because I want to have my own domain. Blogger also doesn''t have many features. My hosting service is 1AND1 so it supports php, cgi and mysql.

small issue with densityplot
Hi folks, This is really minor but to someone not familiar with the various tentacles of the lmer package it could be really annoying. I was trying to plot the posterior density of the fixed effect parameters of a lmer model, > hr.mcmc = mcmcsamp(hr.lmer, n=50000) > densityplot(hr.mcmc, plot.points=F) There is this error, "Error in densityplot(hr.mcmc, plot.points = F)...

oggdropXPd.exe crashes when resampling is activated
I need to encode a WAV to OGG but must resample to 22050 samples per second, but can't do that with oggdropXPd.exe. The application always crashes. What I do is: Start oggdropXPd.exe. Right-click on fish, choosing 'Encoding Options'. Under Advanced Options, I set Re-sample to 22050 samples per second. Click 'Accept'. Drag WAV on fish. In the directory where the WAV originates,

...The main problem is systemd makes (often badly) more and more things that, as a "simple" init system, it should not do (login, and "su-ing" now, journaling, device management via udev, and so on), violating the KISS principle. If you use systemd, you have to use all the systemd tentacles, even if you don't want. Worse, more and more programs hardly depend on systemd now. Gnome 3 is an example, and that's why I don't, and won't, use Gnome 3. I don't use any systemd-based distro personally. Sadly, professionally, I have to, since RedHat/CentOS and Debian adopted...

...ir smooth working computer systems. Instead we have a few systemd-ers, avoiding the contentious absence of adequate discussion before the systemd imposition, trying to hypnotise us into loving their systemd. Meanwhile those who adore stability and dislike bloatware worry about convoluting systemd tentacles protruding into their well-running systems. One dreads a systemd malfunctioning especially when everything could become inoperable. > A vocal group doesn't like change, argues against it, and presents > itself as the voice of the silent majority (that somehow keep > upgrading to ne...

I'll get to the technical aspects of these letters in a bit; they require an a little thought and I'm knee deep in the codebook engine right now... > <RANT> > > I personally favor the MNG approach over the Ogg strategy because of the way > the licensing agreements read. update for 4.11 Security Officer-supported branches
Hello... In regards to http://www.freebsd.org/security/ , from what I understand the FreeBSD 4.x branch is generally winding down in favor of the 5.x/6.x branches. It would be nice to know ahead of time if 4.11 will also be an extended release, or if that would fall to 4.12. For those of running 4.8 (expiring about the same time as 4.11 is released) we would be in a better position to know

Backup server
Hi all, I've built a new backup server for our linux-clients. Is Amanda the way to go for a backup-solution? It seems to be pretty powerful, if a bit finickety to set up initially. The way we currently do backups is to use rsync from the clients to two folders on an older server that rolls over every other week. This worked fine for a while, but the rsync is cumulative and the users

Problem deleting tc rules
Hi all! :) I see that this is partially covered in the mailing list archive but at the moment I can''t find a straight & working answer. I have an imq device with dynamically attacched classes/qdiscs/filters. There is a hashing filter that maps the last octet of an user''s IP address to a class (and associated qdisc). The "empty" filter looks like this: filter

DTrace provider for NFS
FYI, I posted a blog a few days ago about a DTrace provider for NFS that is currently in development: http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/samf?entry=a_dtrace_provider_for_nfs Let''s discuss any questions, comments, etc. here. I also advertised this on nfs-discuss at opensolaris.org. Naturally, I would expect the discussion here to be more on the specifics of DTrace, and the

Introduce yourself and your project -- Round 2
On December 14th, 2004 David Heinemeier Hansson sent this to the mailing list: I''m seeing a lot of new names on the list. Could we perhaps do a round of introductions? That would also be a great first post, if you haven''t had a chance to contribute yet. The basics should include your name, your organization, your country and city, and the project you''re
