reommended settings for low bitrate voicecom codec ?
Hello,
the voice-communication TeamSpeak (www.teamspeak.org) is currently testing a
version that supports speex codecs. The quality for high bitrates is quite
good.
BUT, the low-bandwidth speex codecs that are currently used arent very good.
What I did to find this out:
I comprared a speex AVB with 6.3 KBit/sec (total, overhead for pa...

Any clues where I can find rpms for this (on Centos 4.x), I have tried a
number of different site with no luck.
Many thanks

Prompt recording
Does anybody have useful tips on creating good quality recordings for
use with prompts in asterisk? I'm interested in hearing input on
hardware (mics, dats, sound cards, etc) and software (recording
software, dsp) as well as recording techniques.

Wine, WOW, teamspeak, skype, etc.
Lots of key words. Just generally, how well does Wine handle voice chat?

Without seeing some examples of your Speex implementation, it would be
difficult to comment. I can tell you that you need to make that the
conversion between floating point and fixed is done properly. This seems to
be a common problem.
Also, I am confident that TeamSpeak is using LHACM.ACM and distributing it.
While HawkVoice is being distributed, it doesn't appear to be used at all.

WoW crashes my microphone.
Hey folks,
Running TeamSpeak while playing WoW, I'm having trouble keeping my microphone going for any length of time. It will work fine for a while, but then suddenly stop working altogether until I force-reload ALSA. The microphone is no longer listed as being available.
As far as I can tell, this only happens with ga...

The other kind of microphone problems
Hi there!
Recently I bought a simple Headset so I don't have to use my webcam mic in Teamspeak
anymore. Its a normal analog Headset, so no USB. I plugged it in my Audigy2 and it works fine.
The thing is, when I'm in Teamspeak starting Wine (wincfg is enough) it seems to "lock"
the Microphone input of my Audigy2. Then I only can use it inside Wine and only hear what the
others...

Hello,
HawkVoice doesn't have a 6.3kbps codec for CELP, it has a 4.5kbps CELP codec
and I do not believe it is being used by TeamSpeak. The 6.4kbps CELP being
used in TeamSpeak, to which you are referring I believe comes from Lernout &
Hauspie's LHACM.ACM file which it appears you are redistributing (I assume
TeamSpeak has a license and permission to do this). The only people I
thought had this license was Microsoft for...

Mixer and WOW
Do es anyone know what the following means for sound under Wine?
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on MPU-401 UART,
disabling mixer
Severa of us are trying to get WOW internal voice chat and teamspeak to work
(different uses - wow for groups, teamspeak for guild). Im wondering if the
above output has a workaround until a fix is made or even if it's related to
our partial failures. In other words, we don't know which end is up <insert
wry humor here>.

No Sound in Wine - disable / remove pulseaudio
Wine requires direct access to sound device(s) to make sound. This is true for both ALSA and OSS driver back-ends. However most sound servers are not compatible with neither of these back-ends. This also true about pulse-audio - it is not fully compatible with Wine.
If you using new distro (Fedora 8, Ubuntu 8.04, SuSE 11) and do not have sound you should:

SV: How to detect SpeexBits corruption
I was curious if you had ever peeked at a Teamspeak voice packet? I
already have large chunks of the protocol torn apart. I believe the
voice packets are the last big hurdle. As I know nothing about speex
encoding, it is proving difficult to figure out the start of the actual
voice data and/or any voice specific state data contained within the

pulseaudio/wine question
...rder
and harder to remove without messing up the system. Outside of wine
pulse is great to keep installed for simplicity of audio management.
In wine, default install going to pulse instead of alsa/oss, pulse works
fine for all my game sound (WoW, CoH/V, Eve) it just falls over in
Ventrilo and Teamspeak (I use the windows version through wine because
the native Linux version has horrible sound quality).
Are there any plans to help wine and pulse get along, and/or is there
anyone working on this that we non-programmers can help by testing sound
out on our systems and sending info to?

Preprocessor denoise. Does it work?
There are many ways to implement a VAD. What you described is actually
perfectly equivalent to the most trivial (and least robust) VAD algorithm.

Samba seems to cause complete server crash
..., or in the syslog file.
However, if I try to play an avi straight off the samba server, on an XP
client with MP10, it brings the whole deal to its knees after a few mins at
the most. I have to hard reset the server.
Other than this, all my other uses are flawless (game server, dhcp,
firewall, teamspeak, peerguardian... etc).
I don't _think_ its a firewall problem, as all internal traffic is ACCEPTED
by default, and I don't have a permissions problem or any browsing errors...
it just dies when I play a video?!
I'm using FC4, with samba V3.0

libspeex.dll
hello,
we start to develop an open source project. This project is a VoIp
application
with the same features like "Teamspeak" (http://www.goteamspeak.com).
Our test application run in peer to peer mode under windows 2000 and above.
At the moment we are using the gsm codec (13 kbps bandwidth). Later there
will be a port for *unix systems. As aforementioned the project will be
released as freeware under the bsd lice...

Preprocessor denoise. Does it work?
...d, I bet you that most or all of your
production users are doing this in one form or another.
Seriously: take your laptop and run a quick speex transcoding
with AGC enabled. Speak a little, then type something quickly,
then speak a little more. Play it back. Now do the same thing
with Skype, or Teamspeak, or Ventrilo, or pretty much any
production VoIP application. Why does speex encode the typing
while nothing else does? I don't have source code to those
products, but I'm all but certain it's because they include a
squelch feature in their preprocessing.
If (1) you consider VAD and...
