CRAN Taskviews returns 404
The CRAN Taskviews (http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/Views/) is currently unavailable and returns 404 Object not found! This is possibly due to them now being linked from the side frame and the URL now being http://cran.r-project.org/web/views/ Unfortunately the webmaster link on the 404 page does not have a...

Jazzing up the Task Views index page
...b sites (tucked away as the third element of a sub-menu of a CRAN mirror site linked to by the CRAN link from the Download menu on the main R home page). The index page is rather plain, so I designed a more engaging one. The result of my effort is now here: http://www.maths.lancs.ac.uk/~rowlings/R/TaskViews/ Having done that, I even considered that something like that could replace the R Homepage. Giving new visitors an idea of the vast range of techniques and application areas available in R would seem to be better than the current graphic which has been there since perhaps 2004. Comments, thought...

Installing views in R2.15.3
Hi, Please what am I doing wrong? I tried installing some views (eg MachineLearning, Multivariate) on R2.15.3, but it keeps on telling me that the package is not available for 2.15.3. Is it true? Thanks [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

genetics: backward haplotype transmission association algorithm
...s - a couple of papers in PNAS (lastly:framework for making better predictions by directly estimating variables' predictivity, Lo et al PNAS 2016; 113:14277-14282) have focused interest on mapping complex traits to multiple loci spread all over the genome. I have been around on the relevant taskview(s) I hope but fail to see that the backward haplotype transmission association algorithm (BHTA) first described by the authors in Hum Hered 2002; 53: 197-215. I wonder whether the algorithm has been implemented in R - primarily I ask since I fail to understand exactly how the algorithm works an...

how to search r-help?
Also https://www.r-project.org/posting-guide.html indicates that RSiteSearch() within R searches R-help but in my install (3.4.3) RSiteSearch() only searches? how to search r-help?
I am new to this listand am unable to get the search tools listed on https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-help towork. What do people use to search the help archives? 1. The google search box on http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/~rking/R/ returns a 404 error. 2. The http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/ site has many references but I don't see how to search r-help from there. 3. The

One problem solved and a new one to consider...
Solved the original problem I wrote in about with a combination of r-cran downloads through Synaptic and downloads from one of the mirror sites. Things worked out well. Using the ctv package I pulled in the contents of the Finance view. Not clear which one, but one of the packages called up RDCOMClient as an apparent dependency. Not showing up as an r-cran file or on any of the mirrors

program avail. for simulating spatial patterns?
Hi all, I am wondering if there is a function available in R for simulating spatial distribution of objects (plants in this case) in order to simulate sampling of a population . Specifically, I would like to be able to change the spatial correlation of individuals. I don't want to reinvent the wheel if it already exists. Thanks, Wade

AUC steady state calculations
Hi, a collegue has send me an excel sheet with some plasma values, and now he wants to know the AUC steady state. I took a look at the CRAN taskviews, and came up with PK, PKtools, ... The AUC calculation, no problem with that, but how do I calculate the steady state? One way of thinking was with the aid of multiple t-test, to find where we couldn't find difference between the different measuring points, and take this as steady state, but I...

R and Finance - EAD, LGD, PD
Hi, I'm currently beginning to use R for financial analysis (mainly Basel II benchmarks) and I would like to know if any R-User can give me some initial directions on packages and tutorials which I can use to calculate capital requirements, default probabilities, and related stuff. Thanks in advance, Rick [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R package for segmentation with both continuous and categorical input variables XXXX
Hello everyone, Can anyone suggest a decently documented (with good examples in the documentation) R package/function that performs segmentation (cluster, mixture modeling) of a population using both continuous and categorical input variables? Thank you, Dan [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Alaska and Hawaii map data?
I can plot each county of the contiguous 48 states or all of them using variations of map('county', region=c('wisconsin' . . . .) in the maps package. I was wondering whether similar data was available for Alaska and Hawaii? I was also wondering if there was a database that listed FIPS codes for the counties in Alaska and Hawaii. Similar to 'county.fips'. Thank

Solving a multinomial gompertz partial differential equation in r
I haven't used r in quite a while but would like to get back into it. I have a problem that I would like to solve with r. I have some multinomial data that looks to follow an asymmetric sigmoidal growth pattern. Solving a multinomial gompertz partial differential equation in r is what I’m after. Would anyone be able to provide me the code and packages to do something like this? Regards,

Latent Class Logit Models in discrete choice experiments
Dear R users, I would like to perform Latent Class Logit Models for the analysis of choice experiments in environmental valuation. This kind of analysis is usually performed with NLogit Software (http://www.limdep.com). I attach the results I usually obtain using NLogit and NLogit model specifications. For Random parameter models and Logit Models I usually perform my analysis with the package

string functions
Hello, trying to locate all the string commands in the base version of R, can't seem to find an area that describes them. I am in need to do some serious parsing of text data to create my dataset. Is there a summary link to all the character operators? string manipulations that would help in parsing text.

nlme: spatial autocorrelation on a sphere
I have spatial data on a sphere (the Earth) for which I would like to run an gls model assuming that the errors are autcorrelated, i.e. including a corSpatial correlation in the model specification. In this case the distance metric should be calculated on the sphere, therefore metric = "euclidean" in (for example) corSpher would be incorrect. I would be grateful for help on how to

R & very large files
Hi,   I very recently started using R (as in: last week) and I was wondering if anyone could point me to website(s) with sample code to deal with large datasets (length- and/or breadthwise). I understood that R was never designed to work with datasets larger than, say, a couple of hundred Mb. One way is (as I also read) to let R work in conjunction with SQL. That's one interesting approach
