Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg-vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
just for the record -- I think you mean video/theora when you mention vorbis+VP3. Vp3 is becoming Theora. Tarkin is another video codec project at Xiph. As for this whole MIME type issue, can someone enlighten me as to how this problem is addressed with Quicktime, Microsoft, and RealNetworks plug-ins today? Also, does an MPEG4 tag specify which audio codec is used? thanks - dan -----Original Mes...

Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg-vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
...far for ogg-based files. I understand your issues on having application/ogg as an all-encompassing MIME type, as ogg by itself cannot determine the further type of content included. Therefore your idea about having more specific MIME types makes sense. Yet, I don't believe that application/ogg-tarkin or application/ogg-vorbis should be chosen, as "application/" to me flags that the content of the file can only be determined by an application that can read this specific type of file. In my opinion, vorbis should be audio/ogg-vorbis because vorbis itself is an encoding format that makes...

Hi, I'm interested in helping out with the Vorbis and Tarkin projects (in my already limited time!). I don't have an extensive background in all of the mathematics involved, but it looks like my mathematics from undergrad Physics is good enough to get a grasp on it. In the past few days I've started doing some reading on the mathematical basics...

Tarkin developer mailing list
Suddenly, quite a few people have jumped in and started active experementation and discussion about Tarkin, as well as playing with the very rudimentary test-of-concept 3d wavelet coder jack, hatamoto and I hacked on last year. For your use, I've added a new mailing list, tarkin-dev@xiph.org, for discussion and hacking on Tarkin. The list is run, linked and archived at xiph.org like the other mail...

ogg pic format (again).. here's why
I sent a little mail some time ago asking if there was going to be an ogg pic-format, and you replied that PNG, MNG and JNG is good enough (sorry for this late answer btw).. But, consider this: The ogg video-format (tarkin ? where do you get these names from anyway ? :) ) needs a way to compress its frames. Are you going to use MNG for that ? :) .. If you had an ogg pic format, that format could not only be used for normal pictures, but also for animations and movies! Both pictures, animations and "real" mo...

Tarkin video codec?
Me again, this time not about patents but about wavelets. I've been doing some work on an image compression method which uses Haar wavelets plus VQ and entropy coding, and Segher Boessenkool told me in a private message that you are also doing a video codec. So I searched the archives and read a bunch of posts, but I never did find out any web address. And it's not on xiph.org either. So

new tarkin source
Hi, I uploaded a new tarball to http://www.informatik.hu-berlin/~waechtle/w3d-0.1.21.tar.gz. The command line argument format has changed, it now expects a byterate/frame and a filename format string like "%i.ppm". Beside this I have added some minor changes in the coefficient transmission code. Please take a look on it, Jacks cat is only slightly blurred even at 1kB/frame -- the
