DNS and DHCP setup
...es details on how to set up Bind
9 and DHCPD 3.x so that dns is updated when clients log on?
I saw this is not in the howto collection
(http://www.bibsyst.no/samba/docs/man/DNSDHCP.html#id2981727) so I was
kind of hoping someone else has some notes.
I would be greatfull for any tips and links.

copying from Win to Linux
...o do this?
I'e tried rsync, but it croaks on some files with names like "somethign
:some.eml" the same does cp.
What I'm wondering about, is has anyone else had these problems, and if
so, how did you solve them? Do you have a script for cleaning out
characters like this one?

Outlook .pst files on Samba PDC
Occasional problems arise where the .pst file just will not copy from the
users profile on the server. Doesn't seem to be related to the file size.
Has anyone had issues with outlook and Samba PDC - (win2k clients).
Solutions that have worked have ranged from complete loss of the .pst file
to restarting users profile from scratch. thanks

Question regarding guest account =
...if I want a guest user that can log on to my domain without a
password, but who will not have any access to shares etc, should I then
use this "guest" user or should I create a special user for this?
I think the questions are quite basic, but I just wanted to check that I
am correct.

Mandatory profile changes languagesetting

oplocks = no
nt acl support = no

path = /home/samba/profiles

The mandatory profile dir is set up so no user may write to it, but they
got r-x perms on all the files there.
I would be happy for any help in solving this.
Cheers,

Base ldap access file.
...The
only thing samba needs is access to the ldap-tree not be a complete
Unix/Windos user.
The patch is written so that if you run configure.pl in smbldaptools
first, it will use the password you have set for the master ldapserver,
thus you save a bit work there :-)
Please comment and commit ;-)

xvda vs lvm
...erences
between running a system directly of a LVM partition versus a xvd partition?
Basicly:
disk = [ ''phy:/dev/LVM/root,xvda,w'', ]
vs
disk= [ ''phy:LVM/root,hda1,w'',]
Any tips? I tried searching the archives but I didn''t find anything.
Kind regards,

PDC and BDC with LDAP and Samba 2.2.4
Hi,
I'm trying to build a PDC and BDC to elimenate Windows NT on a
network and have load balancing and fault tolerence for users.
I've compiled samba 2.2.4 on two servers, working with openldap 2.0.23
with a master and a slave. Replication on LDAP servers works fine.
I've set up a domain controller and wanted to set the other server
as BDC in case the PDC goes down. Each time i put

Obviusly this is a major problem. Has anyone suffered this problem ? Has
it been fixed?

Is it possible not to have ou=Computers?
Hi,
I seem to remember somewhere that Samba 3 can be configured so that you
do not need real users for computers, that these users only exists in
some tdb database.
How is this possible?
Can someone describe how to do this?
Many thanks,

samba 3 LDAP/PDC problem - adding WXP account
..., so I assume it's the machine account user that it is looking for.
I have however tried adding the machine account using both LAM and smbpasswd -a -m, but no difference.
The debug log says everything is successful?
I'm at a loss. Does anyone have a hint as to what is wrong here?

call_nt_transact_ioctl: Currently not implemented.
Hello,
we run samba 2.0.6 on Solaris2.6 and use it together with clearcase
(version 3.2.1).
Sometimes the checkout of files from a clearcase NT-client hangs and
probably causes clearcase to destroy the viewstore. In the samba logfile
of that client I found the following message:

Has anyone used puppet to install eggs earlier? Do you have any tips?

Where are libcrypto & libssl?
I want to install Samba 2.2.3a from the Rawhide RPMs on my
RedHat 7.2 system. There are 2 dependencies unresolved:
libcrypto.so.3
libssl.so.3
I did a search at "rpmfind" but it couldn't tell me what RPM
contains these.
Can someone point me to these library files? Please & thanks.
