Detecting Samba server from Windows?
Hi,
I'm curious to know how I can programmatically differentiate between a Samba
share and a Windows NT share from a Windows program. For both,
GetVolumeInformation() claims the file system is "NTFS". This isn't very
helpful. I need to be able to tell the two apart because "real" NTFS
supports various things Samba's "simulated" NTFS doesn't, such as

samba problems in RH8 and 98/Me
ok, I fixed the file permissions problem using
chown... which is good.
now, I am still having the problem in WIndows 98/Me.
samba keeps prompting for a password to:
//netbiosname//:IPC$
what in the heck is :IPC$????
it works fine in windows XP or 2000, so what am I doing wrong
that it doesn't work in 98/Me?
I tried reinstalling windows me on my daughters computer and

my smb.conf file
ok here is my smb.conf file..
its basically the default for RH8 with a few additions
like writable = yes for users to be able to write to their
directories and such..
this .conf file works fine in XP,
its just Windows Millennium I am having problems with..
Windows Me keeps prompting for a password at:
//TopGun/:IPC$
TopGun is my netbiosname..
I have no clue what IPC$ is, encrypt passwords

connecting to resource IPC$ problems -samba 2.2.8
hello I am running Samba 2.2.8 (latest) that I downloaded the
binary
from the Samba site. I have this problem in older versions of
Samba as well.
I have under Redhat 8.0
security level = user
works fine under NT/2000/XP platforms,
but when I try to login from a Windows 95/98/98se/Me machine,
samba prompts me for a password to resource \\netbiosname\IPC$
how do I prevent this from happening in
