Have I been hacked?
...RELEASE-p3 i386 and they've both been up 150 days without any
problems...
/var/log/messages on each system contains only:
Jun 9 12:00:01 in newsyslog[60291]: logfile turned over
dmesg's output is truncated.. it periodically changes, but currently
it reads:

What's really weird, is yesterday the messages file also only contained

tags, having some problems....
Have a problem with flac tags,...
need to clean up 100's of .flac tags....
example:
(1)_Buff & the Skylights - Wishing You.flac
07 have a great day.flac
^^Love for ever - Muffin Men.flac
(spaces)
As you can see, there are allot of problems,
and I don't have the time to hand tag each .flac file.

is there ANY thing for Linux, that can ( RE-tag )
.flac files, ie: do a lookup

Object oriented rsync
...achine A (uid, gid, mtime, ... etc). Machine B would get a different stat(). Has anyone thought along these lines?
BTW, I just joined this board and don't know how to search through it. Is the only way to do this to download each month of posts and manually search each file?

rmdir bug?
Samba Developers--
I have a share called pub. In that share, there is a folder that I want to
block access to. So, I chmoded it 0700 and chowned it root. In my smb.conf
file, I set the "guest account" parameter to "netshare", an unprivialized

Printing from Windows to Samba problem
Hi,
I am having a problem where I get an error which says "access denied,
unable to connect" in the printer window for my samba shared printer. I am
able to add the printer ok and I can print from linux (RH7.2, printer on
usb) without any problems. I can also access the file shares without any
problems from Windows. Has any one got any ideas why this may be happening?
Thanks.

Serving Samba through a Firewall

I am looking to serve a SAMBA filesystems to client at the other side of a
firewall, does anyone know what ports/services, need to be opened just to
deliver the filesystem. The client will initiate the connection and
hopefully use TCP, not UDP ( is that possible)

Solved: Communication in for() loop (Linux version)
Thanks for the advice I've received.
FYI - It turns out that the problem was connected to the way R handles
pipes and FIFOs, compared to the way the socat command does. (I don't
know exactly what, but trying different things solved it!)
I found that if you use FIFO() in R AND set up a FIFO connection in a
terminal and then use SOCAT to communicate, it becomes reliable (at

Solution to communicating with UDP and other interfaces (under Linux) using R
I'd spent hours with Google trying to find how to control a separate
software package from R via a UDP interface (I could run the package
under a "system" command, but that was too slow). I finally figured out
a way to communicate with UDP through R, and it works fine (using the
"system" command) - it's also fast.
