preserving sparse matrices (Matrix)
...3,] 0 0 1 0 0
[4,] 0 0 0 1 0
[5,] 0 0 0 0 1
[6,] 1 2 3 4 5
Currently, I am calling Matrix to make these sparse again, but my
matrices are large (100x100). Is there a way to perform the
operations I want without losing sparsity?

Testing for whole numbers
...re:
1. Is there a predefined function for this? I am not trying to
reinvent the wheel, but I have searched help and found nothing
relevant.
2. Would it make sense to propose the extension of floor, trunc etc to
complex numbers? It would certainly make my life easier in many
situations.

fitting Markov chains
...estimate the transition

References to introductory literature on estimating Markov chains like
this would be welcome. Most importantly, I need to know how robust an
estimation is to selecting the discrete points, or is there a simple
"goodness of fit" estimation.

making uniroot a bit more robust?

proceed to the algorithm proper.
Currently I am using a wrapper function to implement this, and I found
it useful. But I didn't want to send a (wishlist) bug report before
asking on the list...

2. I have not learned much about userdb and it seems that dovecot was
written for and used by experts. I mean that the docs/wiki is not enough
for me: from the wiki page of userdb it will be for me difficult to
setup one. Can you suggest some docs for dummies?
Thanks for your help, Tamas

(OT) System admin of Rweb at Tama University
...her all, but recently I found an interesting application
of Rweb (although there are many other fancier web applications of R).
We can submit some simple code to Rweb to create an HTML page
containing animations. Most of Rweb servers I can find are still using
very old versions of R, and the one at Tama University is an exception
(it is using R 2.12.1):

I want to contact the system admin to see if I'm allowed to use their
service, and I also have a few suggestions for them. However, I am

array indexes in C
...ces (i,j,k) map to the vector
elements. What is the right way to do this? Are there convenience
functions to do the index calculations (knowing the dimensions) that I
could call?
In the C99 standard, I have seen something about flexible arrays, I
don't know if that would help here.

bug report: dovecot-imapd core dump
Hi,
Since I did not get any specific suggestions about this bug, I am
attaching another backtrace. Any suggestions for workarounds etc would
be appreciated -- should I regenerate the index? Or install a dovecot
from the repo where this might be fixed? Is this a known bug?
Best,
Tamas

du -sm says, the size of the maildir is 154M.
I use xfs.
I can't figure out, why is there a difference.

(offtopic) I need two sets of 5 different color scales
...g:
Bcolors <- hsv(.6, seq(0.2, 1, length=5), 1)
Fcolors <- hsv(seq(.1,0, length=5), seq(0.2, 1, length=5)
this is what you see in the plot. What colors would you use? Do you
think that varying both brightness and hue helps to distinguish
colors? Should I change saturation, too?
Thanks,
Tamas
PS.: The plot is simply gzipped. If you need a zipped version, or the
source code, contact me.
