In desperation I grabbed the latest source release and built the whole caboodle. Success! So to keep this tale short - if you upgrade to kernel 2.2.19, you may need to recompile WINE to fix any errant problems. I'm trying to uninstall WINE 0.9.30 from source on my OpenSUSE 10.2 desktop, but after I do ./configure, make depend, make, and install,.... it doesn't install (or at least not completely).
