looking for accessibility help (blind student)
I will have a blind student in my AP Statistics class this year.
I'm thinking about using R as his calculator. It seems like it's core text-in text-out nature may match screen reading software well. And I'd like to explore directing visualizations to tactile graphics output.
I'm wondering if anyone could give me suggestions (people, websites, organizations) where I could discover anything that could help me help him.
Thanks so much.

Repost: Aastra BLF directed pickup: anyone have this pickup-mgernoth file?
...anyone knows otherwise than that this is still required in latest 1.2
or 1.4 please reply with success/failure stories. Any info would be
appreciated.
We can get directed BLF pickup working OK with the GXP2000's but the
keypad quality (ie you have to press some of the buttons beyond the
"tactile feedback" click to make them register) makes me nervous overall
in a business setting (ie answer a call *fast* without having to
remember to press the buttons really hard).
Cheers
Alex

Is anyone using the Orca screenreader?
Orca is a daemon written in Python and C which presents the contents of
a Gnome screen to a blind person in speech or braille. It is on the
CentOS 5.6 disks. Has anyone on this list used it? If so, what was your
experience? I am developing the BrailleBlaster tactile literacy
application. Since I am both blind and deaf, I will be using a braille
display. I also need to make sure that the application is usable by
other blind people.
Thanks,
John

how to adjust link function in logistic regression to predict the proportion of correct responses in 2AFC task?
...forced
choice task. The question is whether one needs to take into
account the fact expected probabilities for the percentage of
correct responses ranges between 0.5 and 1 in this case and
how to adjust the link function accordingly in R (see details below).
Gabriel
Subjects were asked to match a tactile stimulus
(shape A or B) with a visual template (response a or b).
The exact stimulus properties depended on the
experimental factors ecc (3 levels: 0.4, 0.7 and 1.0)
and kappa (also 3 levels: 0.75, 1, 1.25), which yielded
nine experimental conditions. Five subjects participated
to the experiment...

Where to recruit Ruby on Rails developers?
Anyone have suggestions on where to recruit Ruby on Rails developers?
My startup''s in Berkeley, CA and I''m looking for a talented technical
lead. I''ve tried LinkedIn and Craigslist but the pickings are slim. This
project provides an opportunity to use OpenLaszlo.
