question about sysvol replication
Hi,
I've created an Active Directory domain with 2 samba 4 running in
debian (I'm using the latest 4.1.x sernet packages).
Everything is running perfectly but I've found that I also have to
configure sysvol replication (that I didn't), looking at
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication I've found this
statement:
... for rsync-based SysVol replicaton, you have to choose one DC, on
which you do all modifications (GPO edits, logon script changes, etc.)
What this exactly means? I have to only connect to the select DC to do
antyhing (like creating users, joining compute...

Samba4 AD/DC Replication
Hi folks!
I'm having some trouble replicating a domain.
I followed the steps in this guide:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO/Join_a_domain_as_a_DC
I followed the steps and everything worked fine for me.
but...
If I make changes on the PDC, these changes are replicated to the Secondary
DC, but if I make changes to the Secondary, these are not seen in the PDC.
Is there any way

sysvol replication and posix uid / gid mapping
...'t thought of was the fact that GPOs reside as files on the
sysvol share and thus are subject to the same rules as any other files.
Now I activated winbind and those files now belong to a non-numeric
group and rsync complains.
Maybe a hint in that regard on
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication would be nice.
What is the best practice in regard to all those groups like "Domain
Admins" "Printer Operators" and so on?
Should those get posix uid/gid numbers? Could somebody point me in the
right direction?
Thanks

sysvol /etc /private replication/backup via git
Hello List,
we have a running (test) AD samba4 system running successful for several month. We are now trying to add more DCs to the mix
and have a proper backup/desaster recovery strategy.
Basically I wan't to adapt the samba_backup script found in the sources to backup everything via git into our repository. I understand that the best solution would be to tar everything before commit.

SAMBA 4.10 SYSVOL Replication adn RODC

==============================================
What is not cool, SYSVOL replication :
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory#Sysvol_Replication
GPO's have to be manually synced, AD without GPO's lis like a car running
on all spare tires...
Internal DNS is said to not be good for complex or large deployments, so
use Bind_DLZ.
Some of these issues have been around for over a decade(

Why not simply use an rsync based way, to keep everything in sync?
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication
Easy to setup. Changes (e. g. GPO) are done on one host. All other are
pulling the changes.

If your backup is only for sysvol: If you use rsync (see above) for
replication,...

Samba4 AD SysVol Replication (HowTo + Script)
Hello,
as it is often a question here on the lists and by many others on the
internet, I wrote a new HowTo for setting up a SysVol replication
"workaround", until Samba supports this feature by itself:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication
For the replication process, I wrote a Bash script, put it on my
webspace and linked it in the HowTo, which should describe everything.
I hope this would be a good start/solution for people currently missing
this feature.
Feel free to give suggestions, comments, etc. :-)

Group Policy Objects
I was trying to update the group policy with gpupdate /force and was
getting an error message saying can't connect to
\\example.local\sysvol\example.local\Polices...etc
So when I tried to navigate there I could not see the Polices folder. I
ran samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset and tried again, rebooted...still nothing.
Then instead of using example.local, I just used the IP, 192.168.0.3 and
