Second (and this is probably OT), I use the binary nVidia driver and
the keyboard and mouse sharing utility Synergy (http://

be so much less productive). Since upgrading to CentOS 5, if the
nVidia card goes into powersave mode, it can not be woken up by

Subsetting data frames without a loop
I KNOW this should be easy, but I'm stuck.
My data frame consists of multiple observations from each of a number of
stations, and what I would like to do is create another data frame that
contains all the variables of the first, but only rows where a certain
variable is at its maximum for the station.
So, for example:

extending qemu-dm
Hello,
I''m working on a project and trying to pass through a PS/2 mouse + keyboard
to a hardware VM. I''ve played with numerous things (including the obvious,
using USB), but after finding no alternative, it seems like the best way to
approach this would be to modify qemu-dm to pipe through data from
/dev/input/eventwhatever to the keyboard/mouse that qemu provides (and then

write permission
Hi,
Recently I have migrated my file windows PDC server to samba. I have problem
with writing to subfolders. I need to set write permission manually from
linux server to get access to sub folders. How can I set the write
permissions to inherit the sub folders.

Looking for Newsletter Stuff
Hey
I want to start the next Newsletter early so it can be a little more
relaxed. The next release will be the 1. April.
I really need someone to *interview*, just drop me a mail and I will
send you a few questions. This can be anyone from the community that has
some sort of CentOS install.
And then I want to introduce a new section called DeskShot where users
can show off their workplaces.

Disappearing mouse on CentOS 4.1

error.
I killed the X server with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and logged back in, and
everything is back to normal. Has anyone else seen this? Any
suggestions on how to debug this next time it happens?
To be fair, I should tell you that I am using Synergy
(http://synergy2.sourceforge.net) to share the mouse and keyboard of
the CentOS system with two other systems (my CentOS box is the Synergy
server). I've been using Synergy for a long time, and CentOS almost as
long, and have never had this problem until this week.
My last yum update was...

I can imagine how to do this in Perl by writing a loop, but I suspect

Thanks.

Q: Suggestions for long-term data/program storage policy?
...idemiological departement that - after a few
years of rapid growth - finally is getting around to formulate a
general data storage and retention policy - mainly to ensure that we
can reproduce results from published papers/theses easier in the
future, but also with the hope that we get more synergy between
related projects.
We have formulated what we feel is a reasonable draft, requiring
basically that the raw data, all programs to create derived data
sets, and the analysis programs are stored and documented in a
uniform manner, regardless of the analysis software used. The minimum...

"new" computers and monitors
Until recently, I had a 32-bit machine with one monitor running fedora.
The later editions of fedora didn't like it, so I switched to CentOS.
Now I have two 64-bit machines and two monitors and a CenturyLink router.
Also a KVM switch that I have not taken out of the package.
My main machine has two video connections
and two ethernet connections, eth0 and eth1 .
I've never had more than

R graphs in LaTeX documents?
I have tried to find a neat way to include graphs from R in LaTeX documents,
but have not succeeded (I work with a WinEdt/MikTeX combination). The two
roads I have stumbled along so far are the following:
*Generate postscript files and convert them into EPS files by means of
GhostScript or other not so straightforward tools.
*Generate pictex files and include these.
None of these solutions have

Diagnosing random hangs
I have many different centos machines that are hanging
regulary. I believe this is due to something our application
is doing - not a centos specific problem.
When the machines hang, there is no access to the console
or remote access(ssh, rsh, etc).
Any tips on debugging this issue? It is becoming quite a
show stopper as we migrate our product from Solaris to
Linux.

Just to be clear I don't do that.
However I have had a fair bit of my professional life in the realm of samba
in an AD context on CentOS this past year.
I happen to know someone who does maintain that wiki though so will give
him the heads up over drink...
