Cannot open port 631 for Cups printer sharing
I have been trying to set up printer sharing on the LAN.All machines are
CentOS 5.2 fully updated. The problem server is a fresh build. The box
it is replacing worked fine for many months.
The problem appears to be a closed port 631 on the new box. iptables
and ip6tables are stopped as shown by the output below. To confirm I
was using nmap correctly I ran it against the old server first which

On my system (Debian) these directories are wildly different (e.g. data
is under /var), but other than

ipw3945 wireless not working
This is a new Centos 5.1 install on a HP nc2400 (that use to run XP).
Completely clean install; blew away the XP partitions...
After applying all the updates, and configuring for the rpmforge repo, I
used yumex to install dkms and the dkms-ipw3945, ipw3945-firmware, and
ipw3945d rpms.
lsmod|grep ipw shows:
ipw3945 180391 1

Trouble renaming file and folders, SMB2+ or newer samba (4.8)?
Little more then a curiosity.
Swithcing from Samba 4.2/NT to Samba 4.8/AD, many users complain about
they have difficulty to rename files and folder (windows error say
'busy file').
We have added to smb.conf:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY TCP_KEEPIDLE=240 TCP_KEEPCNT=4 TCP_KEEPINTVL=15
and this helped a bit, but still in some situation (where surely
there's only one user in that

behavior of dovecot with Openldap
Dear team,
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'd like to know the behavior
of dovecot in a particular stuation. My questions are as follows.
In /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf, 'hosts=' field is the one which can be used
to specify availabled ldap server to access from the clients to authorize.
And also sevral ldap servers can be specified in 'hosts =' field as shown

[Bridge] QoS in bridging
Hi all,
I have got one query on QoS in bridging in Linux
My question is, when we define IP QoS ( using a tc command ) queuing discplines and classses, will these be applicable to bridged frames also ? I mean the packets that take IP path will be sent out according to QoS we defined, but the bridged/ swithced packets will also be sent according to this defined IP QoS classses ?
My doubt is

Compiling Samba with LDAP support - please help
I tried to compile various version (2.5, 2.6pre1, 3.0alpha17, HEAD,...)
of Samba with LDAP support ('configure --with-ldapsam'). During
configuration and 'make' process all seams fine, but after I installed
('make install') and ran, Samba complains something similar to "Unknown
option: ldap server" and some other similar error messages. It seams that

Switching form NT PDC to AD
I set up a test machine running Red Hat 5.2 and samba version 3.0.28.
We have a unix server sharing out a file system.
The windows users accessed the file system via Samba and as
they all had unix accounts they were just mapped to their UNIX id.
As long as we had groups with the same name, the groups were
mapped as well.
Since going to AD, we would like to do the same thing, but it
appears that

?: 'rsync' hang with 'sshd2' (F-Secure), Digital Unix (OSF1) and HP/UX 11
...c-nohang.patch
included - the client side is still missing it
Tthe patch included in the OSF side
did not have any affect on the trouble.
The terminal 'ssh' connection between the machines
works OK. The 'scp' works also (though a bit slowly ...)
I have tried many combinations of swithces, but e.g.the normal single
directory sync:
./rsync -e /usr/local/bin/ssh --rsync-path=/usr/users/rem_usr/bin/rsync
rem_usr@rem_host:/usr/users/rem_usr/cpy_src/ ./cpy_target/
executed on HP/UX 11 side seems to be hanging.
It seems that the 'rsync' transfer will start but it may hang

Server cutover complete; waiting for root server DNS propogation
Hello,
All services have been successfully migrated to our new facility.
Unfortunately, NetSol once again displayed a brilliant inability to
grasp a clue using both hands and a suction cup, and informed us they
*might* get around to updating DNS records in about two weeks. If we
could fax them enough identification.
Needless to say, they've lost our business and our domain transfers
