CyberPower PR3000LCDRTXL2U — battery date reset?
Well, for a bit of devil's advocate - if the battery swelled, it might hace leaked or fumed, contaminating the device and contacts. The safe approach (for their liability, and for end-users' fire hazard really) is to not claim the device is safe to use anymore. s3 as mysql directory
Hello list, I am soliciting opinion here as opposed technical help with an idea I have. I've setup a bacula backup system on an AWS volume. Bacula stores a LOT of information in it's mysql database (in my setup, you can also use postgres or sqlite if you chose). Since I've started doing this I notice that the mysql data directory has swelled to over 700GB! That's quite a lot and

Certification (was RE: realpath(3) et al)
Just saw this from eWeek. "IBM, which paid roughly $500,000 for the testing, and SuSE (pronounced "SOOS-ah") were announcing the certification jointly. Experiences With NUT Eaton & Cyberpower UPS
I watched the recent discussions of "issues" with an Eaton Ellipse UPS with some interest. I use the US version of that UPS, the Ellipse Pro 1500 in my case. I had not encountered many of the issues recounted in those discussions. The Login Failure message is not unique to that UPS as I have seen it with my Cyberpower units. The polling setting also had me wondering as I have never had

Kernel Bug
I have a DB server running ext3 under fairly extreme load. The system is a Dell 2550 (Dual P-III 1Ghz with a gig of RAM) running RedHat 7.2 with the stock 2.4.7-10 kernel. Things have been swell for 95 days, but I just got bit: Linux 2.4.7-10smp #1 SMP Thu Sep 6 17:09:31 EDT 2001 i686 unknown [root@ root]# cat /root/oops.20020817 kernel BUG at journal.c:373! invalid operand: 0000 CPU: 1 EIP:

OpenVPN on phones?
It's just come to my attention that newer phones from both Snom and Grandstream support OpenVPN. Is this a new trend or something? Since OpenVPN, in one swell foop, deals with both NAT issues and securing communications, I'd be very interested in hearing if other phone vendors were embracing OpenVPN as well. (Other VPN solutions are all well and good, but I really like the flexibility

problems with win98/smbd/automount and DNS lookups
...8 machine). log.smbd reports a single error:- [1999/09/19 19:01:54, 0] smbd/dir.c:dptr_close(275) Invalid key 256 given to dptr_close At the same time the solaris machine on which the samba server is running starts swamping the DNS servers with lookup requests and the automountd process starts swelling in size. Shutting the win98 machine down doesn't stop the smbd processes although new well behaved processes do start up. Some 12 hours later the automountd process swells to the size of the available swap space on the solaris machine (locking that up) and the local network administrators get...

Tweaks for 0.2
I can make these changes tonight, but if somebody else could do it that would be swell too. 1) Validators currently do not work for the dumbest reason ever... the "Clone" method in wxRbValidator needs to be changed to: virtual wxObject* Clone() const; while in there, I think the validator methods need to be renamed to proper ''wxruby'' things ("validate"

Somewhat-OT: Stupid NAT tricks to learn from Apple?
I've been spending some time looking at some of the significant changes Apple has made to Facetime in iOS 7. I'm far from an Apple fanboy but some of them are pretty interesting: - multiplexing everything over a single UDP port - deflate compression with SIP - various /slight/ protocol violations ;) More here: http://blog.krisk.org/2013/09/apples-new-facetime-sip-perspective.html As

Macbook DHCP issue.
Hi folks, A while ago I setup my macbook pro to run TINC to my linux box. It's worked just swell since April. The other day it just stopped working. The connection comes up and everything seems fine but I can't DHCP a correct address. I followed the old setup instructions that were located here: http://www.tinc-vpn.org/examples/macbook-install/ They seem to be gone now. When I try and

Attempting to recode elements contained in a list
Hello R-Masters, I have a list 's' with three elements, as shown below. I want to recode a.a, a.a2, and a.a3 to NA if the value in a.a is less than 3. I reivewed my Modern Applied Statistic Book, the online help and did some searching of R-help on the internet. I explored unlist and as.list.data.frame in an attempt to isolate the third element of the list s, but this was not helpful.

NT Backups
Given that rsync, smbclient and smbmount are all kissin' cousins, this seems like a good place to post this question. I'm building a linux backup server which will be archiving other linux and some NT servers. The Linux boxes are being rsynced over ssh, so everything is happy there. The NT servers were initially going to be smbmounted and rsynced, but this ended up hanging about 30%

How to properly bridge the network to CentOS under Parallels on a Macbook Pro?
Hi all, I have recently acquired a Macbook Pro (sweet machine!) from my employer, and one of the tasks the machine has to do is to run a distributed software development platform (called Splice) under Linux. For this task, I have chosen the trusty CentOS 4.4, and I have it set up in Parallels. So far, so good. Now then, the network does work within CentOS, but I want to assign it a fixed

ACD Labs 12.0 installs fine, runs fine for the first time
Hi there, I am a relative Linux newbie and due to my work I use ACD Labs 12.0. This is a free for academia NMR processing software available only for windows. I am running it through a Virtual XP machine but I wanted to see if it would run using Wine. The program installed fine, and when I started it for the first time everything was swell. At last I could run pretty much everything I need from

Visual Migration Design Tool
For a really long time, I''ve been using DBDesigner from FabForce.net. For those of your who''ve never used it, its a freeware visual entity-relationship diagram tool, which allows you to make database designs visually instead of in SQL DDL. You can then use it to generate the SQL to make your databse design into reality, or even run a "synchronize" to make any
