The crypt() thing is explained here:
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Porting/Conceptual/PortingUnix/compiling/compiling.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002850-SW17
(Compiling... in OS X -> Other Porting Tips -> Functions -> crypt).
(TL;DR: crypt() comes from unistd.h)

night to update the *nix boxes.
I can provide detailis and scripts if needed.

Files Updates
Hi,
I have an Informix program that unload data to a file in a samba directory.
Problem is although the file has changed, I still see the old data from my
Windows 98 SE PC. I only see the updated data after refreshing the snmba
directory numerous times. Sometimes I have to wait for more that 10 minutes !!
Funny thing is this problem does not apply to my friend's PC.
Why is this so and

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a
I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I
faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even
dont know if it can be a samba-problem.
When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice
versa I get bad performance:
1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second
But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

PC Virus scanning on *nix side?
...well. The software is very configurable.
Works well in a two-tier
approach to virus control. ie On the PC and on the server.
Regards,
Scott.

help with rebuilding md0 (Raid5)
Sorry, this is going to be a rather long post...Here's the situation; I
have 4 IDE disks from an old snap server which fails to mount the raid
array. We believe there is a controller error on the SNAP so we've put
them in another box running CentOS 5 and can see the disks OK.
hda thru hdd looks like this
Disk /dev/hdd: 185.2 GB, 185283624960 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 22526
