Samba interface for administrative tools
...'s
no standard way provided by Samba to change its configuration or modify
users account other than direct modify the config file and or database
backend. This make many tools less portable because it depends on the
backend of samba.
There might be a windows rpc call (use by usrmgr.exe and svrmgr.exe), is
it the 'standard' way to access samba?
Thanks.

Samba 3.0.14 - files visible, cannot double-click them from Windows clients

No workstations are able to browse the network.

and at least one other workstation is running, it is possible to browse
the network *but* svrmgr.exe cannot locate the domain controller. This
surprised me because users are still able to log on.

Help with user/domain Management fm Windows side
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Back-end is LDAP.
What are some good techniques for Domain management from the windows
side? I've got usermgr.exe and svrmgr.exe but:
1. I don't know what functions these tools are or are not supposed to be
able to perform on a Samba domain as yet.
2. I can delete users but I cannot seem to add them or modify them.
~From smb.conf:
add user script = /usr/share/samba/scripts/smbldap-useradd.pl -a -m '%u'

Creating a machine account manually (EMC, Samba PDC)
..., I was told that we need to
manually create the machine account first. How is the best way to do this?
We are using an openLDAP backend, using the idealx scripts. Joining a
windows machine from the computer properties dialog of that machine works
perfectly.
Things I have tried:
Running the NT4 SVRMGR.exe as domain\administrator, file ->Add Computer to
domain
Result: Dialog box that says "Access is denied"
/var/log/samba/machine_i_ran_svrmgr_on.log

currently no logon servers available to service logon request
Hi all,
My Samba server with winbind in an NT4 domain ran fine for a year, now this
message is all we get from the windows side.
Can it be because it is not listed in the WINS?
Whe I look at it from Svrmgr in NT then it says access denied.
The same happens using net view
Why does it not register with the WINS server?
If I configure Samba as a wins server - will it run together with an NT WINS
server?
Thanks for any ideas

FreeBSD add user script syntax
I've got Samba set up as a domain controller successfully, and am now
wanting to user usrmgr.exe and svrmgr.exe to make basic user admin changes
from a Windows workstation.
Some stuff works, and some stuff doesn't, and I was looking for some help
with the script sections listed here...
What works:
add user script = pw user add -n %u -g users -c "Windows User" -s
/usr/bin/nologin

Samba NT Domain User/Group Confusion
...ins for each user, I added them to Samba
via smbpasswd. I created a Samba Admin Group "domain". In Linux this all
looks right to me.
All users can log into the domain and access all of the shares on the
servers.
None of the users have the ability to change anything via usrmgr.exe or
svrmgr.exe.
Usrmgr.exe reports "Could not find Domain controller for this Domain".
The "Select Domain" popup lists two domains PDC and DOMAIN.
Srvmgr.exe reports"Could not find Primary DC for PDC you may administer
this domain but certain domain-wide operation will be disabled...

Must you "net join" for the Samba machine to become a domain member?
.../samba/private
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
read only = No
create mask = 0750
browseable = No
guest ok = no
preserve case = yes
We've added my Samba server ("DEV1NY") to the "CORP" domain (I can see it listed when I run svrmgr.exe).
So I start smbd & nmbd daemons. I have NOT run a "net join" command on my Samba server yet. I then on my Win2000 workstation I try to map my unix home: \\dev1ny.etrade.com\dkarnows but it fails with a pop-up that says:
The mapped network drive could not be created because the...
