OT: long - Replacing CD's? was RE: New type of copy-prot ected audio CDs are coming...
...won't be long until big labels attempt to eliminate the digital
ins and outs of equipment. The problem they face is most people
that currently use a rack system featuring digital interconnects will
NEVER revert to an analog only system. I know that I won't!
Think back to VHS, BetaMax, SVHS and LaserDisc.
VHS has incredible market share because its licensing is open.
Betamax was strangled by Sony. SVHS and LaserDisc failed to
reach critical mass because they offered only incremental
improvements and were not backward compatible.

VGA Capture
Hey lists,
This is somewhat OT, but just a little.
I want to capture live (5 fps?) 1024x768 VGA and make mpeg or something I can
stream over the net.
The application is this: Developer meetings and conferences. "all" speakers
bring their laptops and hook up to the 1024x768 projector. I want to broadcast
that over the net. (I may point a web cam at the presenter too and have

Hi Ralph,
could you please set up a area at xiph.org, where you mirror some of
the test sequences, just to be shure that everybody talks about the
same sequence ?
The license issues are not too important, I think if we should be
allowed to use 'free for non-commercial use' sequences for our tests.
Perhaps it's a good idea to seperate things in 'free', 'free for test

i am a bit confused to what you want...do you mean you want a scan converter?
you can plug a vga out of the laptops to the scan converter, take another vga from the scan converter to a projector, and a svhs or composite out from the scan
converter to the encoding machine
you can buy them for about 200 USD or less
or do i misunderstand your question?
