Newb to puppet - Solaris svcadm question
...reate a manifest to shut down X Windows on my various and sundry servers. Why? Because that''s the way we roll.
Also because SOX standards tell us we have to.
/etc/puppet/manifests/classes/cde-login.pp
class cde-login {
service { cde-login:
ensure => ''svcadm disable cde-login'',
}
}
Nothing happens on the client - clearly something is amiss.
Am I doing something obviously wrong? I can certainly manually run ''svcadm disable cde-login'' as root and watch X rather dramatically stop working on my test machine (grin).

Can anyone point me to a recipe for using svcadm to start a Rails helper like this? Anyone see a glaring error in my approach?
Thanks in advance,

Solaris 10 Jumpstart instructions on the wiki now
...MF fine when the system is
already up and running, but the lack of a running svc.configd means they
don''t register themselves in a Jumpstart. I''ve hacked around this by
symlinking his manifest under /var/svc, but is there any way to detect
running in a Jumpstart and modify the svcadm command accordingly?

I have in nsswitch.conf:

winbind and samba services are being restarted on every config change like

krb5.conf is the config suggested in the samba doc you linked.

possible bug
...r message
mount_smbfs: negotiate phase failed: syserr = Connection reset by peer
smbclient on the same Mac works fine.
If debugging is enabled for smbd and level set to 10 (nothing else
changed)
# inetadm -m svc:/network/netbios-ssn/tcp:default
exec="/export/samba343/sbin/smbd -d 10"
# svcadm refresh svc:/network/inetd:default
# svcadm restart svc:/network/inetd:default
mount_smbfs works from Mac client
So why does it not work if debugging level is set to anything below 10?
Kind Regards

Aggregation elements
Howdy,
Is there a method to get the number of elements in an aggregation? Are the
results stored in an aggregation guaranteed to be in any type of order?
Thanks for any insight,

zfs set sharenfs=on
I started sharing out zfs filesystems via NFS last week using
sharenfs=on. That seems to work fine until I reboot. Turned
out the NFS server wasn''t enabled - I had to enable
nfs/server, nfs/lockmgr and nfs/status manually. This is a stock
SXCR b49 (ZFS root) install - don''t think I''d changed anything much.
Shouldn''t a ZFS share be permanently enabling NFS?

It''s way simpler to export an unpacked ISO over NFS and install via

I am not sure how to manage on Solaris to get it working ?
Check for services status. Originally all disabled.
#svcs -a|grep nfs
Which services have to be enabled ?
# svcadm enable svc:/network/nfs/status:default
# svcadm enable svc:/network/nfs/server:default
# svcadm enable svc:/network/nfs/client:default
Maybe more or less ?
Would the rest be correct ?

# mount -o ro -F hsfs /dev/lofi/1 /mnt
# share /mnt
# virt-install -n sp...

Opensolaris domU unable to get dhcp lease
I''m running a ubuntu 9.04 64 bit dom0 with kernel 2.6.29.6 and xen
3.4.0. My eth0 is bridged to br0 and to my guest VMs. The dom0 is
running a dhcp server on br0 which is able to provide leases to
physical machines on eth0, and also to a windows xp domU which is
bridged to br0. However my open solaris 2009.6 domU is unable to
obtain a dhcp lease.
On the opensolaris side I can see this:
