How to obtain the series of residuals from fracdiff
...renced ARIMA (p,d,q) model, and it works fine, but I wanted to have also the filtered series and the series of residuals. I understand these are calculated in the subroutine fdfilt, in the program fdcore.f, but I can't manage to get them out. getent returns HEX number instead of username
Not for all users but for some. I'm using samba 3.0.20 running on Fedora Core 3. Security = ADS, winbind works and getent passwd returns local unix accounts plus the domain accounts as expected. It also returns a lot of entries like: 6811ff15281f4d19bdc:x:18004:10000:Anel Susana Esquivel:/export/private/6811ff15281f4d19bdc:"/sbin/nologin" I suspect these are accounts in a trusted domain. AFAIK, they are not causing any problems but I'm wondering if this is normal (and harmless) or an indication I messed up something. Could the owner of the hex numbered...

Excel vs. R
Y no

s.window in stl()
Hi, This is actually a theory question. I'm a bit confused by the s.window parameter in the stl() function (which is in the ts package). For example, in the stl documentation it uses the nottem data, and then: plot(stl(nottem, s.win = 4, t.win = 50, t.jump = 1)) What does it mean by s.win = 4? Is it because a year has 4 seasons (namely Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter)? If so will it

Giving a first good impression of R to Social Scientists
Dear all, in the coming Winter Semester, I will be a teaching assistant for a course in Survival Analysis. My job will be to do the lab sessions. The software used for these lab sessions will be R. Most of the students have a background in social sciences and the only stats package they used so far is most likely SPSS. So I assume they might be quite surprised the first time they see R

Wilmer Contreras
