Lots of Centos 5.2 updates already
I just completed my first 5.2 install. For 'completeness' I 'tested
out' yum update.
Guess what? For this minimum install, there were 43Mb of updates to
download.
So I went over to my local repo server and setup a /centos/5.2/updates
directory and started the rsync to get all the updates:
155 files taking up 943Mb. Already. Wow! Perhaps something to do with

Back to my Xwindows kernel panic
I have a newly built drive with 5.2 fresh install (that I will be
cloning shortly) in my DECtop and it is failing with X the same way the
upgrade from 5.1 drive did (not too supprising there).
In 5.1 X worked. I could startx from init 3 and get into GNOME. Also
VNC into the box and have a GNOME screen. With 5.2, I get a kernel
panic. Well I guess it is a kernel panic because once I run

writing a R package
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am trying to write a R package and I found what has been said in the
"Writing R Extensions" is mostly different from what has been done in the
existing packages. For example, in MASS package, there is no *.Rd files nor
*.rd files. There is an R-ex directory, which has all the .R files, which
should be in the R directory according to the manual. Supprisingly, in the R

Ruby/Rails projects "market" site - anyone?
Hi guys,
I was wondering how do you look for clients for your Rails companies?
I know there are places like project4hire.com but these are more
suitable for individuals I think than companies.
I was supprised to find there is no such "project market" for Rails
projects out there - anyone interested in developing one? Do you think
it might be useful / got interest of both developers and clients?
Thanks and looking forward to hear your opinion.

[LLVMdev] minor X86IntelAsmPrinter bug
A possible minor bug in lib/Target/X86/X86IntelAsmPrinter.cpp
X86IntelAsmPrinter::doInitialization is calling AsmPrinter::doInitialization() not X86SharedAsmPrinter::doInitialization()
Supprised I did not spot it earlier.

Advice on: sshd[28182]: PAM pam_set_item: NULL pam handle passed
Hi,
Ive got winbind and samba working great (version 2.2.3) on our RH 7.1 box's.
But as we have about 200 users on our domain, we want to restrict ssh
access on our linux box's.
So I created a group on the NT PDC called: Winbind
In this group, Ive only put our developers and us, the sy admins.
In the /etc/ssh/sshd_config, I entered the line: AllowGroups MMEBS+Winbind.
Thus, allowing

Centos 5, X dies, I cry
I just installed Centos 5 for my notebook (HP compaq nc4010) on a

When I first booted after all the setup, X did not start. hmm.
Rebooted, and X came up fine. I did a bunch of customizing and upgraded
the kernel

Okay, here's my short answer:
Regardless of OS, you should _always_ reserve dates/times for preventive
maintenance on a regular basis.
But I agree with most others, unless
